What exactly are "these kind of tactics"? HIAG said he hopes we bid for Mata, what exactly do you find underhand about that?

Because he said that if you made a bid it might interest Mata but the only way that Mata would know there was a bid rejected would be if it was reported in the media and Chelsea aren't likely to want that to be public knowledge so they would not disclose it. Therefore only Spurs would release this info to try to unsettle a player just like Madrid, you see?

So telling the truth is underhand?

Nothing wrong with going public about bids in my opinion, what Madrid did that was bad was repeatedly declare interest in our player through their personnel and official news streams.

I would at worst expect a "good luck with that" .
But the mention of putting in a bid for Mata seems to have touched a nerve ...

<do not as I do, do as I say>

When Madrid did it they were the worst ever according to Spurs fans, this change of mindset is amusing. So if anyone does it to spurs again in future you all have no reason to complain as you are clearly in support of these kind of tactics now.

I think you misunderstand what we were pissed off with Real Madrid. It was the constant talking to the press openly about our player, whether it was Perez, Zidane or one of a number players that really pissed people off. Combine that with the way they also leaked stories to the press about Levy making demands in excess of £100mill plus players and trying to force us into selling Modric for much less than we valued him and you begin to see why we were angry.

It was similar with Chelsea, they kept the Mail up to date with every offer they made for Modric and opened negotiations with an insulting £20mill bid, which would've given us a profit of about £4mill on a player who we'd said is not for sale. United do it too, they tried bullying Everton this summer and bid £5mill for Dembele last summer.

I'm sure we're not whiter than white in transfers but generally we seem to be much more respectfuly. We don't spend months repeatedly bidding way below the club's asking price for players.

It depends what the bid for Mata is really, doesn't it but as I said I don't think anyone's mentioned insultingly low offers, tapping him up directly or in the media so I don't see where the hypocrisy comes in. Still, I can't say any of us will be losing any sleep if we did use any of those tactics on Real, United or your lot though :D

There is no difference in this at all, in both instances it's declaring interest through the media. Lets be honest you only think Madrid did wrong because they wanted your best player.

The hypocrisy comes in as your fellow fans and you yourself have said that you would be fine using this tactics even though you were all very vocal in your disgust with Madrid for doing this.

Given the damaging effect that 3 seasons of taking the moral high ground has had ...

When in Rome, do as the Roman does.

I'm hoping Messi will do the decent thing and hand in a transfer request due to our (our meaning me hoping) interest too <ok>

No they haven't. I'm the only one that has and it clearly came with a proviso that it was returning the favour.

If someone punches you in the nose, you might not see a problem with punching him back and that's different to thinking it's fine to go around punching random people ;)

I think he made it quite clear the issue lays in the fact they were openly talking about, and unsettling our player without actually bidding for said player.

Chelsea made deliberately low offers to piss us off.

We have not advocated anything other than bidding for a player, and letting him know we had done so.

If you do not understand the difference I suggest you go back to your own board where you will find more people with your level of understanding.

Messi will hand in a transfer request and then WUM Roman to death before signing for QPR.

five stars for that anology - I wonder what made you think of it.... <whistle>

Which is what Madrid did when they wanted Bale.

No, they spent weeks, months even talking about the player first before any bids were lodged.

I don't think you are really willing to understand the points we are making, and you are either stupid or a really poor WUM.

I will consider this conversation over.

You make contradictory posts and i'm stupid? wow good one genius <laugh>

Thing is, though, Drogs (and all joking aside), you have absolutely zero chance of ever signing Messi, whereas it is not beyond the realms of possibility that we might secure the signature of Mata.

I don't think there's any point bothering with him, we all know Perez and Zidane had been talking about Bale signing for Real Madrid long before he actually did. We could explain how they crossed the line on several ocassions but it'll fall on deaf ears, he's showing all the traits of the Spurs obsessed LF from the Chelsea board.
