Lets face it, AVB's a twat and out of his depth and there's no way we can amount to anything whilst we rely on a young manager that hasn't won anything outside of Portugal. Really we should've seen it coming, Chelsea made the exact same mistake back in 2004-05 and the comparisons go further than just the managers nationality and youth, the stats are strikingly similar.

Before reading please make sure you hide any sharp objects and are not near any cliffs as the following table makes grim reading.

If only we had a World Class manager like Mourinho to stop us from succumbing to the terrible fate that befell Chelsea 9 years ago.

Okay so obviously I'm being very sarcy and obviously I don't think we'll win the league but can't we be at least a little bit more cheery? Maybe we should all write down one thing about AVB that we like? I like his tie :)

I'm completely sick of it, too. I don't think that there was this much negativity around when Ramos was in charge.

I like the fact that the players seem happy, even if the fans clearly aren't.

There are Spurs fans that have never liked AVB which is fair enough as it's not like he's done a lot to win them over but there seems to be a bit of a tide turning against him despite, as I've shown, a lack of goals after a big spend up not being a surprise at all.

It wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the rival fans taking the piss on top of that. I'd love to know what some Chelsea fans make of the table, they make it sound like AVB is getting us relegated when really they should be recalling the striking similarity between this season and Mourinho's.

what are Chelsea fans harking on about exactly? The 1 point they have on us with a more settled squad and "the special one"? Good one.

This is the problem of getting into the Champions League and having a decent squad for a few seasons - expectation.

No doubt we gained new fans after our season in the CL and our entertaining brand of football at the time.

Since then, the fans have expected CL and/or entertaining football all the time. In all honesty, we are getting the results but I'm not thrilled by watching Spurs at the moment.

I've been to the Lane twice this year - Basel back in April and Chelsea last month. The Basel fans outsung us all match and the Chelsea match was no better than 50/50 in terms of noise. I watched Palace at the weekend and they sung non-stop.

I'm not expecting 90+ minutes of singing every week but the atmosphere at the Lane recently is a mixture of expectation, arrogance and then fear all rolled into one. It doesn't make for a happy visit really.

The results are good - I think we all would've taken this start before the season started (despite the embarrassment with West Ham) - people forget that - they also forget that 6+ new signings can't gel overnight regardless of their individual quality.

As I said elsewhere, it won't be long before Spurs fans are subjected to chants of "you only whinge when you're winning" by rival fans. Then we can call ourselves Whingers, at which point Peter Herbert will go after Brighton fans for their persistent "Sieg Heil" chants...

I blame Martin Jol, because after years of shyte and celebrating a great year if we finished 8th, he got us all believing again, gave us our Tottenham back and we started winning football matches and the atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic.

Some of us had for years got used to getting stuffed at Anfield, OT and everywhere else on our travels and European football was a thing of the past. Then Jol weaves his magic, Harry took it onwards and upwards into the CL and meanwhile loads of plastics and johnny come latelys jumped on the bandwagon and wanted 5-0 wins every week and moaned if that didn't happen. So now we have a stadium which is like a morgue and AVB blames us and we blame him.

I tell you, it goes back to Jol, it's all his fault.

"I tell you, it goes back to Jol, it's all his fault."

In his defence, BMJ did engineer Lasagna-gate to control both expectation
and increase the hard done by sentiment of supporters. ;)

This being 3 points off the top of the table and our having the best start since most of the squad were in primary school has to stop! <grr>

We're all doomed I tell you....

I think Spurs just need to find some creativity and settle their squad and then they will be fine.
It will probably take a season, with all the new signings they made.
Look at the difference in liverpool between now and last season.
I do think though, regarding the 1 point difference between the two of us at the moment, we have by far had the hardest fixtures.
We have had both manc Clubs, Spurs at the Lane and Everton at Goodison. All very hard games.
Your only real tests have been against us and Arsenal. But the West Ham game aside, Spurs are getting points, and will probably only improve, so I wouldnt be too worried if I were you.

One other thing though, AVB and Mourinho are completely different managers.
And Jose joined us just after he made lowly Porto European Champions and has since proven himself and won league titles in England, Italy and Spain.
AVB may well succeed, but has done nothing outside of Portugal....yet....It remains to be seen

In the 03/04 season Chelsea beat Everton away, 1 nil, the 1st of November.

As we know, we play Everton away this weekend, 3rd of November.

If we can have the same result then clearly Avb is the special one too!

Actually spooky in the 04-05 season, Chelsea played Everton on the 6th of November and also won 1-0.

I'd say Liverpool showed their improvement in the second half of last season and that's when I'll start being really critical of AVB. Some will say I'm being too generous but as long as we're in the hunt for CL football before then, I'm prepared to give him the time.

I don't disagree that you have had a tougher run in, although City have shown what potential banana skins Villa away and Cardiff away are, whilst I think United are more for the taking in these early stages.

It definitely wasn't a serious comparison of the managers, I was just pointing out that the flaw in people treating our lack of goals after spending as proof that we either haven't improved or AVB isn't up to it. I just think it's funny that one of the best managers around had a similar start with you guys and the side finished with 2 trophies, a CL semi final and a record points total for the league.

    I appreciate the effort :D <ok>

Don't worry, it's back on as in 04-05 on the 6th of November, Chelsea beat Everton 1-0, robben scored.

We have the black robben, Townsend, so if we beat Everton 1-0 and Townsend scores then you have my word, I will only speak positive of Avb!
