PS4 will require a 300mb update download when you first connect.
XBox One will have a 20-40min download .

It could drastically change our society and I'm not just talking about weapons. It's surely leading to an age where we can just print everything we need and not have to buy anything. We'll need an economy that's not fueled by commerce because the one we have now would collapse. That revolution Russell Brand was talking about may not be far off.

At the very least, it's likely to have the same effect on copyright law for some physical products that P2P and streaming sites have had for digital media.

I've decided to go for the Amazon Killzone + FIFA bundle - realised that seeing as I'd be buying FIFA and another controller anyway, I'm basically paying like £15 to get Killzone and the camera so I might as well.

More immediately, yes. But if the technology continues to improve to the extent where we can replicate pretty much anything whenever we want (I'm thinking decades, perhaps centuries, down the line), it'll be very hard to put any such laws into practice. We might eventually have to come to accept that money as we know it is becoming useless.

Have you seen any of the game trailers for it? I think it looks amazing. I see FIFA14 next gen now has a game trailer and it's 1080p!

Can't believe I'm saying this but the only trailer in the past year which has really caught my attention has been the new Final Fantasy.

I have, yeah, it looks good but I've always just favoured CoD online so I don't know how much I'll get out of the Killzone multiplayer. Excited for FIFA though.

When does that even come out? I'll probably be getting it.

EDIT: Just seen PS4 has an option to use your real name. Ugh, no thanks.

Not WatchDogs or The Division? Or The Order 1886?

Have to say The Order 1886 (PS4 exclusive) does look like a great game.

No release date yet, but rumours it won't be until 2016. They've been working on it since 2006!

I've also just seen there will be HD remasters of FFX and X-2. Like I want to be reintroduced to those awful characters.

With many devices, there are simply too many components for 3D printing to be realistic within even the medium term. A cellphone might contain three or four types of plastic, rubber or a rubber analogue, several rare earth metals, gold, copper, and who knows what else, without even getting into the complexities of a microchip or the buses. Until someone develops an alchemical printer, some things will remain for practical reasons beyond the scope of printing...two/three material plastic/metal things, though, are another matter.

They look good, but I'm not sure how excited I really am by them. I'll wait until I hear some feedback from you guys.

2016? It better be good then. I can't be arsed with HD versions of FFX and X-2 (X was pretty good, X-2 was awful) but they're obviously just testing the market before they do a FFVII remaster, and because I'm a pissy hipster I hope they don't touch it.

That's 3D printing as it is now, yes, but it's inevitably going to be a step towards something even more impressive. In the same way that "packet switching" in the 1960s was a step towards being able to torrent an episode of Game of Thrones in 10 minutes.

We can tell our grandkids about the good old days where we sat in front of plain old screens and used these crude interfaces called "mouses" and "keyboards".

I'll need a new screen name.

If they remaster all the PS1 titles I think I'll jizz myself. Hopefully they won't give the characters voices and will just make it the same game but in a beautiful HD world.

Digital is far easier because there are no raw materials involved. There's no means to sidestep that when dealing with superconductors...you cannot substitute PVC for molybdenum.

Voices would be terrible. Have you seen Advent Children?

No. And I won't.

I still think that giving the characters voices was the second worst thing the developers have done. The very worst being getting rid of the turn-based battles. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
