Fergie has said in his autobiography that Steven Gerrard isnt a "top, top player"

He is better then any midfielder Man U have had under Fergie.

Gerrard at the peak of his powers IMO in a Liverpool shirt as an all round footballer is one of the best in the one if not the best

I guess that depends on what you mean by 'all round footballer' ... certainly he'd be better in goal than, George Best, Pele, Diego Maradonna, Johann Cryuff, Andrea Pirlo, Roberto Baggio, Lional Messi, Andreas Iniesta, Xavi and perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo ... but I know who'd I'd rather pay money to see ... and it wouldn't be Stevie G<laugh>

All round footballer- Pass, tackle, scores goals, defend, dribble. etc

Xavi and Iniesta play with an incredible amount of simaliar skilled players while the only midfielder Gerrard has ever played with who has been on his wave length has been Xabi Alonso

Gerrard has inspired average Liverpool sides to winning the Champions League, FA Cup, League cups

Gerrard is better then any midfielder Man U have had

I say that Scholes has been the best midfielder the PL has ever seen.

Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham? ,,, haven't they all won more trophies? ... and dribble? ... not sure what you have been watching

Now just to clarify - I don't agree with SAF's comments, I rate Stephen Gerrard - he's an incredibly good English footballer - but in all his years I'm not convinced he would have got into the best world XI at any particular point ... but it's all about opinions

This could lead to an interesting thread.

Who would you all choose to be in your 'World XI' from the last 20 years?

Yeah I would put Gerrard above all of them. Gerrard was the driving force behind Liverpool for years

The general feeling is the reason behind Fergie's comments is to piss off Liverpool. He also criticised Jordan Henderson's running technique

England's problem hasnt been they have produced the players in recent years its they cant get them to fit into a team

David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and Ashley Cole I would have regarded as world class players at some point during their career

well san marino wouldnt either with messi would they.

... not your best analogy ... the fact that Liverpool were in the Champions league means they finished in the top four in the EPL in the previous season ... now if you want a real analogy try Maradonna in the 1986 World Cup finals - he took an average Argentinian side to world cup glory against the best teams in the world ...
