You may well be right Elixir, but I know of more than one case when the "mutual consent" road was not acceptable.

Well, he may have gone because he wanted to ("My work here is done ".... a sentiment Malky might next express...) or because he felt he had seen enough of Mr B to know what the future holds , and he wants no part of it.Who knows. Speculation once again. But his departure means that Mr B is pretty much now in sole charge , with no proper business brain/football experienced person to advise him. A scary thought. I did expect that more than players would be leaving , and I predict that this will not be the last departure. To misquote Churchill once again: "this is not the end , it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning." But unlike what followed for Churchill , disaster not triumph is likely to be the order of the day. It will be interesting to see how the club spins this story, and how the WO reports it. This is when the WO should be doing its job as investigative reporters.

It would seem that the above wording was changed in March. The only two names in the revised version are Graham Taylor and Stuart Timperley.

The fact that the document was revised in this manner would indicate that JW's departure was, if not planned, at least forseen.

Winter seemed like the only trustworthy person there to get us out of this mess.

There's Taylor but, whilst he has our interests at hand he's not a businessman.

Which would also suggest that it wasn't a blazing row or some sudden realisation that Bassani is a clown etc etc and that he has quickly jumped ship. It just as easily be a new owner wants his own people around or that Winter wanted to move on seeing his time naturally at an end.

Someone mentioned the timing coming just after DG's sale. In a way, and this may be utter nonsense, but if he was planning on going this is the right time. He has largely seen us through the trickiest patch and DG's sale sees us through the next stage. It makes sense for him to hold on, negotiate the sale and ensure his previous work doesn't come completely undone.

I could just be hopelessly naive and/or optimistic.

He is not on the same level as Winter, Ashcroft or the Russos in the negotiation stakes. But aside from the "man of the fans" card, he certainly knows a thing or two about running the football side of a club within its means. And when it comes to getting players to accept contracts with us, or youngsters to commit to one more extension/season before moving on, there are few people you'd rather have working for us than him. He has more than token value in that boardroom.

There is even less chance of Taylor becoming CEO than there is of him returning as manager. Which is a pity, because with Winter gone, I'd rather have him running the club than a puppet of Dasani's, or Dasani himself.

I would have thought that B-ass-ini has someone in mind of his own.

I do seem to remember exactly the same things being said at the beginning of most seasons..

I can't imagine there being many more player sales, the transfer window has only just opened and we still have most of the important squad members (as the recent loanees weren't exactly Cleverleys or A. Johnsons and losing 2 players isn't that bad), we've raised quite a lot of money and last season loads of youngsters were blooded.

It's not all doom and gloom <ok>

Toby - I actually think people are more concerned about JW going than the 2 players who most knew would go (although there was a feeling we could have got more for Danny Graham)

Also usually when a new owner comes in they have money to spend and its all positive but this week hasn't been so far.

Lets hope things improve morale wise soon.

Completely agree Mark, as evidenced by the "biggest blow" poll.

The frustration over the Buckley and Graham transfers was 90% financial. In our heart of hearts we all knew that Graham was going this summer, and that Buckley would go for big money sooner or later. The issue is that Graham is a better player than other Championship strikers being talked about, who will almost certainly go for more, and that £1m is not big money for a player with Buckley's potential.
