God, BBC comedies are terrible. This C Bomb show on BBC three is appalling (sorry TSS, it isn't American).

Yeah, seen it several times in its various guises of mini series with subtitles through to feature film in English. If you can, watch the mini series. It's longer and there is absolutely no loss of intensity, so it just has to be better. Very much an experience rather than sheer enjoyment. The English language feature is on Youtube. Don't think the mini series is. Here's a version of the feature film which, at 3 hours and 20 minutes, might be long enough for you at one go.

That's alright, Dan. The only comedies I watch with any great deal of regularity are QI and HIGNFY and they aren't even situation comedy programmes. It has all been dumbed down like they said it would be many years ago.

EDIT: I barely acknowledge BBC Three even exists, let alone watch anything on there.

I don't even bother with QI any more. It might just be me, but it seems like the more recent episodes are less about being quite interesting, and more about dick jokes.

Really..? That's obviously a policy change because their minds never strayed very far away from the female front bottom area of the anatomy [SF's words], once upon a time. :)

The two recent ones I encountered were Miranda and Mrs Brown? What a load of crap.

Dick jokes and front bottom jokes then! But yeah, it seems to have been dumbed down more now. Maybe I'm just tiring of the show.

It's that time of year where comedians are trying to drum up interest for their tours, and someone manages to bag them a space on a panel so they can chuck a few crap one liners. Boring.

Just got in. Now you mention it, I could do with watching Das Boot in its entirety. One of the greatest war series ever. Juergen Prochnow made his name in it. Utterly creepy, scary, thrilling, horrifying, and saddening.

Ice Station Zebra's good too mind.

Why does Glee sucking have to be an American thing? I don't blame you guys for Cher Lloyd. There are people everywhere who somehow enjoy crap entertainment.

Besides, you all started the whole X-Factor/Idol/Got Talent crap in the first place that led to all of this.

You start off by saying you don't blame us and then finish by blaming us. Interesting.

You should blame us anyway. Our citizens enable Cowell by watching his **** in their masses. The British people created Cher Lloyd. American people are to blame for enabling terrible formulaic sitcoms.

The last totally USA situation comedy I really liked, despite it being formulaic, by someone saying a straight line, then someone doing the setup, the someone else doing the punchline, etc.. etc.. was Seinfeld. The quality was so good that I could overlook its roots in American comedy that hark back to Sergeant Bilko. I guffawed occasionally at Seinfeld. Once or twice I might do the same with South Park, but that's about it.

The last situation comedy I really enjoyed was a British/American combo called Episodes, which has so far run for two series and there is meant to be a third next year. I guffawed at that too. Otherwise, it's just the pair I mentioned earlier. Friends make me laugh. My friends, not that formulaic crap that was endlessly on the TV, every time I turned it on, a few years back.

Chilco: Hope you found Das Boot enjoyable again.

Check out Two Broke Girls. You won't enjoy it, but you can make a game of it by seeing how long you can watch it before it makes you physically ill.

Err.. I don't think so Joe. I believe I may have dodged the proverbial bullet by stopping a clip of Glee before my brain started oozing out of my earholes.

The TV series of Das Boot was terrific...this was first shown at a time that the public had a low tolerance for subtitles (now subtitles are taken as a sign you are about to see something good :)). Nothing like a submarine for tension...must be the echo and periods of frozen silence whilst boats pass over. A friend has a son-in-law who is a submariner and he rarely speaks because (even today) a chatterbox in a sub wouldn't be popular.

Damn. Scott Redding has broken his wrist in qualifying at Phillip Island. Ruled out of the race, and I suspect the entire remaining championship. So the old British hoo-doo of nobody winning a Motorcycle Grand Prix championship, since Barry Sheene, remains. Who's going to profit..? Pol Espargaro, yet another Spaniard. I've got nothing against Espargaro, but it would be nice if another country could get a look-in.

I usually fidget during films, but found the Star Trek film engrossing. Good action movie.
