If not Boruc, will be Kelvin. He has a better defence in front of him now. Gazza will have to have improved a lot to get ahead of him. But, please be fit, Artur.
Always a difficult one. The second keeper won't get many games (hopefully), so do you spend limited funds on a keeper rather than a striker, defender etc? The ideal thing would be a young, talented keeper willing to learn andwaiting in the wings. That should have been Gazza, but is he good enough?
I'd be surprised if it was that much, even if we're recouping 10-15m from outgoing players simultaneously. The Cortese/Liebherr squabble suggests that the latter doesn't want to rack up losses, and my guess is that we could break even with a modest January window, but not another big spend. Heh, assuming that we're not holding down a CL spot when 2014 rolls around, of course...
I wouldn't be, we still need to strengthen. But as you say if in Jan we are still in the running for Europe it will be spent. But if we have dropped off a bit we will spend less. The Cortese/Liebherr squabble was well over hyped, it wasn't as bad as people think. Banega is a target in Jan so I am told.
The only reason we would buy in January is if the right player is available for the right price. I'm sure I've heard that NC doesn't like to buy in the January window so it won't be a panic buy.
I think Kelvin's a perfectly adequate back-up. He's always done just fine whenever he's been drafted in. Seems to have less pressure on him now.
Still need back up if Gazziniga isn't seen as good enough. As I said Davis is a good if not great shot stopper. But his reactions when diving is getting slower. He gets beaten at the near post too much for my liking. He has been great and loyal for us and I thank him for that, but his age is starting to show in certain areas.
Davis is still a perfectly capable goalkeeper. He was very unlucky last year, playing at a time when the defence was awful. A couple of times the ball bounced away from him and just fell to the wrong person. Boruc also let a lot of things bounce off him for the first few games he played but somehow he had luck on his side and the ball was invariably cleared. And, by the way, no penalty save is easy as couple of people were suggesting earlier. There is luck involved sometimes, i.e. guessing the right way to dive, but you can't compare it to making a save in general play. Lots of penalties are scored that would be saved easily if the goalkeeper guessed incorrectly. That said, get well soon Artur!
any one think like me that just maybe he wasnt keen to play as if he had a blinder and england hadnt qualified how hard his time in the english league could have been ,after all he,s closest to the opposition fans ? just a thought
