    Good read Simon.

Quinn has come out today and said we need to invest in the squad, how much will they give Bruce im not sure, we should have a decent transfer kitty after the sale of Bent and now Henderson add to that the 10th place finish extra prize money etc.

I would think Ellis has some fears as you point out in Steve Bruce's ability, he has invested a sizeable amount of cash the past couple of seasons. Ellis is a businessman and knows that he needs to protect his investment but I don't think we see any marquee singings like Gyan last year. Although we are making slight progress I doubt Ellis will be willing to sanction another 20-30 million for Bruce to spend during the summer. I guess Bruce will be forced to sign players on the cheap i.e free transfers coupled with that, two to three cash signings I doubt any big names will be joining us.

I think that you may well be right, but I would not be surprised to see some money being spent on a big name striker.

Champions League winners Barcelona are keen on a move for Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique, 25.

Newcastle and Blackburn will go head to head in a race to sign 25-year-old Egyptian forward Shikabala from Zamalek.

Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith is in line for a shock return to his first club Leeds. bet your gutted about that...

Meanwhile, Stoke and Queens Park Rangers are considering moves for Newcastle striker Nile Ranger

No mention of the big two today
