Spurs fans nicked for singing "Yid Army" - whatever next?

    What about the Birmingham "zulu's"
    Or the Harlepool "Monkey hangers"
    Or the Sunderland "Black Cats"
    Or the Fulham "whites"

    Where does it all end?

No doubt the Met received a complaint from the Leeds United Supporters Trust though <laugh>

After the controversy caused by Tottenham fans calling themselves the 'Yid Army'

Blackpool have now been asked to stop referring to themselves as 'Coon Lagoon'.

I don't get all this controversy over YID. Maybe someone could actually explain to me the offensive meaning to the word. Never even heard of it until recently. I've tried to research it an still none the wiser.

If I put YID into google the first thing that comes up is Tottenham 0-3 West Ham I kid you not (pun intended).

The next is wiki and before clicking on the page it says this...'The word Yid clarification needed] is a slang Jewish ethnonym. Its usage may be controversial in modern English language. It is not usually considered offensive'

So why the hell are police arresting people in the crowd?

I always said this day would come that the pc brigade would start arresting you for stuff shouted from the terraces...after fencing...all seater stadiums...banning of booze...banning of smoking...banning of bottle tops...bubble matches...now like the gestapo pulling you out the crowd...the world's gone bloody mad.

I apologise if the word is deemed as extremely offensive but then I have no desire to be wanting to say it but would like to have an understanding of the word as it's constantly brought to my attention purely by the media...AH!!!!!!! the media...now there's another story.

Chesh,I get confused, when I was at school you couldn't called the darkies black, now you can.
They were coloured, well everyone has a colour, whether it be black, brown or off white, cos I never met a white person that wasn't albino.
Now you can't call them coloured, they have a colour, hence being 'coloured'
You can call an australian an Oz,but you cant call a pakistani a paki?
    I don't get it.
    Feck the PC brigade.

Black people are allowed to call themselves "******s", but Spurs fans cannot call themselves "Yids"

Have to tell you guys, over here we call Pakistanis 'Pakis' and west Indians 'WIndies' (cricket teams mostly) and no-one complains. We call Greeks, Italians and those from the eastern european counties 'wogs'. 'Poms' is reserved for those from the British Isles (which really pisses the Jocks, paddies and Taffys off, who cares!) And guess what? NO-ONE CARES. We just get on with it.

So, there you go, Mighty, you pommie bastard.:laugh: and after more than forty years I STILL get called a pom.

And I think you'll find that the word 'Yid' is actually the Yiddish word for a Jew.
