http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/new-contract-for-michael-051013/ Well earned Good to see us keeping on top of our contracts, We don't want to have top players going cheap like Arsenal have in the past
Strange that in his little Bio they mention him playing in the Champions league, but not being involved in our 08 cup win. Was he not in the squad for that?
Unfortunately not. Woodgate and King. Kaboul on the bench. Miraculous that those three were all in the same side. Plagued. I think this was around the time that he was having really bad migraines, wasn't it? Am I getting that mixed up? Great to see someone really work their way into the good graces of a manager and not moan and whine on the way out the door to another pay day. Wouldn't have blamed Dawson for leaving last season, but he's done brilliantly to show what he can do and it's good to see him reaping the rewards for it. I'd love to see him make the England squad for this summer's tournament. He seems like a good spirited and well natured bloke who'd run through walls for you.
I can't imagine Barcelona or. United queuing up for Dawson to be fair. That said, irrespective of his ability he seems to have a fantastic attitude and has earnt the new contract. Rather than sulk and leave he decided to fight for his place and prove the manager wrong, which he did.
Dawson is better than Rio these days. You're kind of missing the point though. I'd rather we keep on top of our contracts of all our players, any player's just one great season away from having big money clubs sniffing around them these days and whilst Dawson might not be considered fashionable enough for the money sides, he's definitely good enough to get in any squad in this league.
Daws is a much underrated player. Sure, he doesn't have the kind of pace that seems to be in vogue these days of tippy-tappy footy, but he is agile, strong, extremely fit, and one of the best in the air I have seen of any defender in European football. I have never really understood some of the harsher criticism that has often been leveled at him. So glad he stayed with the club (when he was offered a way out), and fought for his place. That's exactly the kind of player we need at Spurs if AVB is to build a strong, cohesive team.
Not in a million years. Rio is hardly my favourite human being but he and John Terry are still comfortably England's best CB's. Not sure Dawson would get into any of the top 4 sides but he'd comfortably get into anyone elses.
Rio's a shadow of the player he was and I don't think he's good enough for the Premier League anymore, let alone United. I wasn't talking about first 11s but squads that he'd get into and I'm pretty confident he'd be at least 3rd choice in any of the top 4 sides.
Rubbish! Tevez, when he was banging in goals for fun a couple of seasons back, named the best English defender he ever came up against, and it wasn't Rio or John "hang 'em high" Terry; it was Dawson. End of.
Delighted for Daws and really happy to see him rewarded for his performances since he fought his way back into AVB's plans ,as for Ferdinand he is getting found out now on a regular basis, age has caught up on him it seems no shame in that
Injuries haven't helped Ferdinand, either. Shades of Ledley King, unfortunately, as he's looking good in some games and then looks a shadow of his former self in others. Doesn't make the 18 today.
news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/4223911.stm Even with Andy Reid being a belly flop, was a great deal back then. Always thought Dawson would make it at international level and reminded me of John Terry, slow but an old fashioned centre back who should have had more England caps and also more goals from set peices, thats one area Dawson has been a let down. But overall a fab pro and top quality defender by premier league standards.
Reward indeed. Stood his ground, got on with it, and is again back in the fold (Adebayor take note) . Even if Vlad steps up and Kaboul returns to his best, it will be a long season and Dawson will be a big part of it.
This contract extension is a well deserved and well earned reward for a player who is the consummate professional, a great ambassador for the club and for himself. His attitude has been first class, he is the perfect role model and above all else, he is an exceptionally nice man. Well done Daws.
