Ok its going to be a quiet week and its a bit early for a match thread. So should MP change a winning team? Should Davis keep his place? I expect Swansea to pose more of an attacking threat than Palace but they do concede goals. Think I'd start with jwp I'll go with Boruc Clyne Jose Lovren Luke Morgan Victor JWP Rickie Adam Osvaldo Subs KD, Chambers, Maya, Cork, Davis, Gaston, Jrod COYR!
Its difficuilt to change a team after a win I think Davis did okay tbh so would probobly keep the same team There is however an argument for both Jrod and JWP to feature Jrod does help to provide a little pace and with Swansea being quite a pacey team, particularly down the wings, Jrod might be more efficient at providing support JWP as we have seen so far this season, has been excellent with his set pieces and this can create an extre few chances over the 90 minutes. He also gets stuck in and works for the full 90minutes Id stick with the same team tbh
I'm with this but would like to see Gaston, JWP and Jrod all coming on. On a separate note does anyone know how to post a poll? I just tried and it let me select the option and how many choices but nowhere to add what the choices are!
I'd go with Gaston in for Davis. How can he impress if he isn't given more than a few minutes on the pitch for each PL game?
Wow. I agree with the first 2 posts Have a good feeling about this one. We may start with Rickie and Adam and Osvaldo in a triangle with JWP supplying ammunition from the right and Shaw from the left. Not going overboard as I never do 3-0 Saints Gaston not to start. If he can't show more than brief glimpses against lower league opposition then he is nowhere near premier league starting line up. Can't believe the Gaston lovers are still saying he should start. It's ridiculous.
Given Swansea's style of play, and the fact that we are home, I too wouldn't mind seeing Gaston srtart the next game. Having said that JWP, Davis, Jrod and Ramirez all have their positives so not a major issue who starts I don't think. Great that we have a squad with a)so many quality players and b)so many different kind of players. Think it will be a 1-1 draw.
I don't think it will be as exciting as we want- last year cancelled eachother out. I think we will win though 1-0 or 2-1 and people will still moan that we are not playing well. Either way I am still stoked for this one...
unchanged side: ------------Boruc ---------Fonte-Lovren- -Clyne------------------Shaw-- ----Schneiderlin-Wanyama ------------------------Davis Lallana---------------------- --------------Lambert------- ---------Osvaldo------------ Subs: Rodriguez, Ward-Prowse, Cork, Hoovield, Chambers, Ramirez, K.Davis He had a good game. He pressurised Palace all game on that left hand side whenever they won the ball back. We missed him when he went off. Wanyama didn't look happy at all when Davis went off.
-------------------Boruc--------------------- Clyne------Fonte-------Lovren-------Shaw ------Schneid---------Wanyama----------- Davis--------Lambert-----------lallana---- ------------------Osvaldo--------------------- Bench- SKD, Maya, Chambers, Cork, JWP, Gaston, J-Rod Lallana to come off for J-Rod at 60-65m, Gaston to come on for Davis at 70 and Lambert off for ward prowse at a similar time. If we get an early goal this could be a slug-fest although I'm predicting more of a cautious 1st half. on reflection maybe JWP should be in for Davis to start?
I thought he had a really good game. I could give a long description of his role, but if I say he did the Paul Telfer thing in midfield, you'll get my drift. Of course, he was better at the Paul Telfer role than Paul Telfer was.
Hard to argue with an unchanged lineup, though I'll again state that we really ought to give Gaston, Yoshida and Cork a start at some point. Not because others have merited dropping, but to keep good, necessary squad members engaged.
They will play in the cup and when fixtures start congesting. I agree, they should be playing regularly. An oasional outing with the development squad is not enough, we need a reserve fixture every 1-2 weeks so those that don't feature in the development squad can play. Cork looked a shadow of his former self against brizzle, it was sad to see because he is a quality player. NB please can we not start the cork vs wanyama thing again!
Not reserve fixtures. I'm not talking about having them fit, I mean ensuring that they're integrated within the squad to a sufficient degree that they can seamlessly take over in case someone loses form, gets injured, suspended, or they simply demonstrate that they're better than the other options. We need to shake the notion that removing someone from the starting lineup is necessarily a punishment, rather than a means to use our squad...I think that part of the reason we tailed off in the home stretch of last season is that some of our players appeared dog tired by March, and we have the depth to keep that from happening again.
Yes we need them fit but that wasn't the issue I felt against Bristol. I'm sure Cork is immensely fit and still training hard but he just looked rusty. Passes went astray and we didn't see him winning the ball back like he used to. I would like our cup team to be playing against reserve sides a few times so they maintain understanding.
The coaching staff know how good he is, it's his fitness that's the issue. But as you say, I'd go for Ramirez instead of Davis.
There is also the difference between fitness and match fitness, you can only gain the latter by having more game time.
