QPR defender reckons they had ‘fun’ against Middlesbrough
By Paul Warburton Sep 28 2013
Danny Simpson Danny Simpson
QPR were having ‘fun’ against Middlesbrough, according to Danny Simpson.

But even though Rangers dominated against a team who hardly got a kick, the defender is keen to have a look at his running stats on Monday.

Time and time again, Simpson (pic) went the full length of the pitch in overlapping runs down the right that caused havoc to a beleaguered Boro back four.

Having drawn breath, the player was adamant this was Rangers best performance of the season.

“Our one and two-touch through the middle was what the manager has been asking for all season – but today it all clicked,” he said.

“We’ve got great footballers in our team, and if we keep the ball the way we can, we’ll control the game against any team and we had a lot of fun out there with everybody playing with a smile on their face.”

A coast it might have seemed, but a hard-working team racked up the miles to also keep a record-equalling seventh clean sheet for keeper Rob Green.

Simpson added: “I’ll have a look on Monday at my running stats, and maybe they’ll be expecting them every week now, but I was asked to overlap and give the team an outlet down the sides.

“Because we keep the ball it means me and Benoit (Assou-Ekotto) can get down the wings that means the full-backs and the wingers have to go with us, or they’re in trouble.

“The record is a great achievement for the defence, and for Greeny in particular and we want to keep it going.”

I did wonder if Simpson had the engine to keep going. The amount of times he received the ball out wide was astonishing. He was up and down the right flank all game long. As was BAE on the left.

Tried it. You can get much done back to back.:(

Got a good night's sleep though.

Oh well, we'll try something new next time. Will report back then ... probably after Christmas. :(

Agree. He works devilishly hard; goes forward but storms back if caught out. Impressed me in a poor game at Yeovil with his effort and skill. Puts in a good cross too.
