http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcAOMzOamd4 Anyone remember this? After watching this, what do you think would be an appropriate chant for saturday?! OWTS
Just some good old fasion chants like 'we'll never play you again' 'you're only here for one season, here for one seaaason' 'premier league youre having a laugh' 'ian holloway, we f**king hate you' Cant think of anything original tbh
It's what you get with Holloway. Football would be the poorer without him. How about a respectful chant of... you don't know what you're doing..!
Without doubt he brings something extra to the game, but so does Di Canio and Poyett etc.... still doesnt mean we have to like them. Getting under the oppositions skins in any way possible can only be an advantage to us All a little bit of Banter and most rise above it
How about getting behind the team, not singing songs about Pompey or Holloway and letting the result do all the talking. But then, I am a romantic.
@ cbk - Exactly this But a few moments of banter during the game never goes a miss i suppose. I do feel that we have become reluctant to sing anyn more than the same 2 or 3 chants during games towards the end of last season and the start of this. Unsure why this is.
I think a nostalgic chant of "Premier league, you're having a laugh. premier league, your having a laugh..." because he HATED that last time he came to st Mary's!
I've never had a problem with him. He puts his foot in his mouth sometimes, but he's good value, and even that comment about the saints fans is hardly anything to get worked up about. I've never understood the enmity towards him.
It's all a bit lame to chant things. Much better to find out where he lives & kidnap his family. That'll learn him to speak about things from years ago. That'll learn him good.
Getting away from joking about Holloway, in all seriousness, I'm for exactly that. Support the team. Sing pro-Saints songs, not anti-opposition and/or anti-ex-rivals songs that are no longer relevant anyway.
Probably more in that direction, yeah. Actually, there's a lot wrong with a bit of banter. There's some banter which isn't light-hearted, which is what real banter is mean to be. So yeah, I 'd rather have less nasty stuff and more of the support-your-own-team stuff, and let the other supporters worry about their players.
I thin there's a line- anything that is personal, sexist, racist or distasteful is not on. But I really don't see the problem with mocking other teams and I wouldn't agree that banter is meant to be nasty at all. I'm not worried about other teams/players but I do like the pantomime atmosphere when there's singing/chanting between rival fans.
It is one thing saying that when a Championship side beat a PL side (Blackpool at the time), but rather disrespectful when aimed at a harmless side who have just gained promotion. Best not to in my opinion.
Inevitable, I'd say. Although let's make sure we're winning first. Holloway is great value, a true character. football, indeed life, is all the richer for people like him. Which is no reason not to take the piss.
