A FOOTBALL fan was fined yesterday for calling a Celtic star “Fenian scum” and posting The Billy Boys song on Facebook.

Apprentice stonemason Jamie Love, 20, was convicted of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards midfielder Kris Commons.

His comments disgusted people who reported him to the police, Stirling Sheriff Court heard.

Depute fiscal Kim McGregor said the song incited “religious prejudice against Catholic people”.

And she added: “I would submit that the lyrics ‘Up to our knees in Fenian blood, Surrender or you’ll die’ could initiate violence against the Catholic community.

“The accused’s Facebook profile was accessible to all who searched for him and was in the public domain and he had no control over who could directly see it.”

Love put the words on to his social network page in the lead-up to football matches in August and September 2011.

Ms McGregor said: “The accused said it was meant as banter with his mates but conceded the comments were made completely out of stupidity. As he admitted to posting the sectarian remarks he knew they would be threatening and abusive.

“We heard from witnesses who said they found the remarks disgusting.”

Love, of St Ninians, Stirling, was found guilty after trial of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by posting the comments.

Defence agent Virgil Crawford said that his client’s comments had no real chance of causing fear or alarm and they would do little more than upset people.

However, Sheriff Mark Thorley disagreed and fined Love £250.

He said: “I accept this was on one view a matter of stupidity.”

Lennon doesn't need his car for work. If he was on minimum wage I could see the injustice but the fact is he can probably afford to hire his own driver.

He was speeding, he got done for it, end of story.

If you see it as some sort of conspiracy against him then you're the biggest fanny going.

Injustice ?

If you're on 9 points and you speed knowing if you get caught speeding you will end up with another 3 points which means a ban then you're a clown . Doesn't matter who you are .

Wee popcorn teeth thinks it's nonsense because his high priced lawyer wasn't able to get him off on a technicality like he did the last time .

Eric thinks a masonic conspiracy made wee Lemon speed because Eric is a paranoid tim .

I'm inclined to agree sadly. Apart from the popcorn teeth comment of course.

It's a theme of modern society that people with money seem to think they should be able to do what they want. What's worse is the fact that we have ****s who are not banned despite having 30 points of their licences.

It's not that I disagree with what you said but who exactly are you talking about? does lennon already have 9 points?

Taking into account how ugly Lennon is and his numerous misdemeanours in the past he should have been jailed for a minimum of 5 years.

He could have killed innocent kids.

Someone has to think of the children.

Am I the only compassionate and caring one on here ffs??

Well it was the A9 so the chances of any kids playing on it are minimal . If it was the A90 then the chances would be a lot higher on account of the stupidity of Aberdeen folk sending their offspring to play on major thoroughfares .

<laugh> It is a joke that some get off a lot more lightly than others for driving offences. Didn't old bacon face get off by claiming that he had the trots? If that had been a delivery driver from Cleethorpes he'd have still been banned and lost his job.
