No takers for this one ? A couple of clues. This is not a case of later plagiarism. The writer was a contemporary of Hugo, knew him personally - and both writers had influenced each others writings. The result was a novel every bit as famous as Les Miserables - and later experts have written books comparing the two novels, and searching for parallels.
Given what you requested, I'll put others' answers together and say Fyodor Dostoyevski and The Brothers Karamazov.
Sorry it's taken so long to reply - we had a 4 hour power cut here. Dostoyevski is correct but not the novel.
That's the one Kev. Dostoevsky had read and translated Les Miserables into Russian and appears to have been inspired to produce a Russian counterpart. Although Crime and Punishment is obviously a much more introverted and psychological work. Over to you.
Looks like Kev has forgotten or can't think of a suitable question - so a quickie whilst we wait. From which city does the name for a type of dried fruit originate? Hope someone can answer this before lunch time - will be off-line from then until the weekend.
I have a quick question. What did these rockers have in common JIMI HENDRIX BRIAN JONES JIM MORRISON JANIS JOPLIN PETE HAM OF BADFINGER ALAN WILSON OF CANNED HEAT GARY THAIN OF URIAH HEEP AMY WINEHOUSE RICHEY JAMES EDWARDS OF MANIC STREET PREACHERS PETE DE FREITAS OF ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN KURT COBAIN
All died before their 28th birthday... aka members of "the 27 club" (not that I wanna set another question if I am right)
Sorry, haven't had much chance to get on Ok, with the recent news in mind... Who was Sir Stanley Rous, and what was his link to Watford?
Is or was in Greece ? The Turkish town of Alasehir (Which was once Philadelphia) has a name which is synonymous with dried sultana raisins - at least in Turkish.
Sir Stanley Rous was president of FIFA in the 60's. His connection to Watford - he was a teacher at Watford Grammar School.
I remember looking it up a few years back and was surprised that's 'all' he was to the town, so was a little surprised he had a stand named after him... must have done some good things at the school.
O.K. Which town or city in England has the highest population density ? i.e. people per square mile within the town or city boundaries. Town or City meaning here a unitary authority.
