Ouch, that's harsh on Cardiff...stoppage time winner by Paulinho.

Tottenham are so lucky. All these attacking players they've bought and they don't seem very clinical.

7th place looks very nice today. And quite traditional for Saints too. We seem to like being at that height. Welcome back, 7th place. It's been overly long. :)

Where do we sign to be allowed to finish in 7th?!

We'll slip but it's nice to enjoy for now.

Yeah, we've finished higher tan 7th on one pr two occasions. One is obvious, but I think we did it one other time too. Without looking it up, I think we've finished 7th in the top flight about 4 times. Seems to be Saints ceiling before they need oxygen.

When you say 'we'll slip', well we'll see about that. :)

Yeah, 'deflating' would've been a better choice of words...it's not that they deserved points from it, but after Marshall stood on his head all game it's a bit of a body blow to concede deep into stoppage time.

All the teams that most would say are top 6 (except Utd) are above us. We will have to string some results together to climb any higher

Yes, we probably would. Which is why I'm saying hello again to 7th place. Anyone who may doubt the significance of 7th place should have a look back through the history of Saints being in the top flight and see how many times we've finished the season there. I guessed it was 4 times, but thinking about it, it might be more. I might even get In That Number out to check, which goes up to 2002-03. We haven't troubled 7th since those days.

EDIT: I've amazed myself. It is 4 times. We've finished 2nd once [that's the obvious one] 5th, 6th twice, and 8th twice. Everything else is double figures, I believe.

Yeah. 2002-03 and WGS. Happy days. Are these happier..? Easily, and we haven't done anything yet. :D

Like a lot of teams, we were more competitive before the PL was started. That's on the point of changing for this club.

Not everyone lives on this site going through all the threads. This seemed the most appropriate place for it and no one had posted since 7.40. You need to relax.

Wasn't surprised he was sacked...but surprised it was so rapid. It was not only his results....he looked like a man who had lost it. You couldn't see him sitting calmly with the board and talking his way out of it.

In fairness it was a terrible appointment - he kept them up though so he did his job I guess.

Whoever comes in will have their work cut out, Sunderland's next 5 fixtures are horrendous. They could be up **** creek without a paddle by November.
