I think Jose is making a mistake trying to get players to play how he wants them to, and not using their natural game skills and adapting his plans accordingly. In the short term at least, I think he needs to compromise his long term aims until he gets the players he needs to achieve it.
Doesn't matter who he plays or where, until we get a seriously good midfield controling player and a genuine goal scorer we are wasting our time. Schneider, Modric is the type we need. Someone to play the Ballack role and run the show.
First change should be drop the 1 up front, none of our strikers can play that role.

A good striker is needed, a strong centre mid is needed and a leader at the back is needed. Personally... I'd go for Hummels, Gundogan and Jackson Martinez in an ideal world... That'll never happen but for the time being, Jose needs to sort the lads out. We have a top quality squad and not one that should be losing at home to Basel.

The views of the over reacting Chelsea fans do not represent our own. Jose will stay and Jose will prevail. A bad start does not a poor season make. Remember we also lost group stage and knockout round matches on our way to winning. Calm. The. ****. Down.

All yesterday proved, is that our defense without Terry in it is going to leak a goal, should have had mikel in from the start, if your going to play luiz and in the backrow, as he still has a lot to learn about defensive positioning.
Jose is still trying to work out the best team to play and to get them playing the way he needs them to do, but nothing is instant , it will take a bit of time.
I still feel through with the strikers we have at the moment its best to play with a combo of two of them as none of them are able to do a drogba , as they do not have the physical/skill combo that drogs had.

I agree but why is Luiz to blame when Cahill was at fault for the second goal and Cole for the first?
I agree, apart from the pinning the blame on Luiz. A convenient scapegoat again.
I think, albeit controversially, that Mikel HAS to start alongside Oscar in the pivot. Give some power and quality in the CMs. Mata down the middle as well at CAM. We'll see what Jose thinks.
Can't agree. On current form our best 2 defenders are Ivan and Cahill. It isn't Terry missing it's Luiz being in it that's the problem.Azpi,Cahill,Ivan,Cole should be 1st choice.
Can't agree again. You don't spend 100's of millions on talented players and then try to change their natural game.The trio of Mata Hazard and Oscar was looking excellent last season and should undoubtedly be the 3 that starts every game.
The strikers are all poor but one thing we did learn last season, and this actually, is that Torres scores in Europe.
The important word you used is 'again'. Haven't you noticed how often you're having to defend him? It isn't all imaginary. Great bloke, not a great defender.
I'm not sure Jose is going to have it as easy at Chelsea this time around as he has before. When he was last at the bridge he had a collection of world class players who were all die hard for the cause. Also he only really had Utd as a rival as Arsenal, City, Liverpool and the spuds were floundering. This time around though, all of those teams have improved, whilst Utd have waned, so the competition is greater. Also I think his team looks a bit unbalanced. It's great in MF, overstocked really, whilst up front Torres and E'eto just don't look like they can carry Chelsea all season. I think you've got problems at CB too. Overall I don't think Jose's going to have it easy this season.
Spot on, Luiz wasn't at fault for either goal.
His demeanour as well as his dishevelled hair style makes him an easy scapegoat. Strange how Thiago Silva has never had any problems with him, people need to realise the problem is more with JT/Cahill than it is Luiz.
Ballack also went on record saying Mikel has to play more and is crucial to our side, as someone who won the double alongside him, he'd know.
The reality is, what was once our strong spine has now become our weak link and every goal conceded this season (exc Super cuP) has been the fault of either Cech, Terry or Cole.
Villa = Terry not being tight enough, but also Cech being beaten near post.
Everton = Catalogue of errors from Ramires' backpass, Cole not being tight enough and Terry failing to push up with the other three CB's thus playing Jelavic onside.
Basel (1) = Cole not being tight enough to Salah - who raped him all game and should have scored twice before he eventually did.
Basel (2) = Cech beaten near post.
Unlike the other two, Cech is still World Class but at this moment in time, Courtois is undoubtedly better than him at most aspects and more suited to the style of play we're trying to achieve. it's been increasingly important to have a goalkeeper quick off his line, good ball distribution and confident with the ball at his feet, none of which Cech is renowned for.
Think Eto'o was partly at fault for their winner as well. Frank would have got that one away and normally covers near post but had been subbed. Eto'o just stood there, didn't attack it at all.
We're missing a Makalele... Someone like Gundogan would be ideal tbh. A fighter in the centre of midfield. Also I wouldn't mind Phil Jagielka. He plays for every shirt he puts on. A replica of Terry imo. Him and Cahill at the back would be extremely solid.
