We don't win next week against fellow out of form WBA?

Will we win against Liverpool, Man Utd or Swansea? Probably not in all fairness. Will we lose all 3? Again, IMO most probably.

We have a League Cup game v the Posh as well in between and then a little local affair at the SOL.

If we lost all 5 league games that would mean 8 out of opening 9 games lost and including a derby. Could the manager survive that or would the crowd turn? Whats the consensus of opinion?

The plain fact is we have outplayed Fulham and lost; scraped a draw against Southampton (could have easily lost this one too); lost badly to average relegation favourites Palace; lost at home again to a decent Arsenal team today (albeit playing okay in patches but not good enough overall) and now face another 5 season defining matches in PDC's fledgling managerial career here at our club.

Whilst there will be some who don't like the question, its a very realistic one to ask given our current plight.

What happens if we lose the next 5 games (inc a derby game) which will be 8 out of 9 played and have 1 point after 9 games? If oit were Bruce or MoN with that opening 9 games would they have survived? I think not.

Do we keep PDC, or do we have say Gus Poyet or Roberto Di Mateo (just two credible available managers we could turn to) hanging on the phone ready to step up for the rest of the season?

Will Short keep his nerve or will he cash in his chips if we do lose the next 3 or 4 games?

I'm sticking with Paolo. Even with your scenario.

We outplayed Arsenal at their own game during the second half today. We in all probability lost due to an incompetent referee, as did Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Two 'incompetent decisions' both in favour of the BIG clubs. Well there's a surprise.

Think the result of the derby would be key. Sure I read that Short wanted Di Matteo before we went for Pdc.

Think Paolo could pay the price for a disastrous fixture list

I'm just taking it one game at a time fella. I'm not my own worse enemy and I refuse to batter my own head

But to answer your question. What if we lose the next five games? We'll still be bottom.

Paolo won't get sacked. New players, new style, the language barrier. To sack paulo (this side of Christmas) would be an idiotic decision that throws the clubs money down the drain, and will give the squad another few months of adjusting to a new managers style. Patience is truly a virtue. I mean, did anybody expect us to be anywhere other than the relegation zone? With the home game run in, new player gelling time and the restructuring of the club from top to bottom. As I recall most were well aware that this situation could well arise and encouraged patience so now shouldn't be any different.

Relax everyone. It'll be fine.

What will a new manager achieve with the run of fixtures we have? Should we sack him before he starts too?

We have to stick with PDC. Todays second half showed what we can do and I must say, Craig Gardner changed it. Perhaps Gardner has more to show with a decent player alongside him. I hope so because the second half was thrilling, right up until the officials wrecked it.

I am not happy with the results and really that's what matters but we must stand by him and let the season unfold I don't and didn't expect big things at the outset but I hope for us to improve steadily over the season and keep away from the relegation zone like I say we are not going to be world beaters YET

Stick with Di Canio, we cant keep changing managers.

positive signs in the second half today.

Lost the game because of absolutely shocking decisions by an incompetent referee!!!

Imo its a Paul Lambert & Aston Villa type risk. Lets survive and improve significantly next season.

Not the time for faint hearts or even "what if" posts like this.

Only an idiot would say things will improve in the short term, they won't as we are not playing teams around us but title challenging teams.

    Ask at Christmas
