Just looked him up. He went out on loan five times. All Northern teams and all a step or two down the professional ladder.
Please tell me. Would you take a step down if you didn't have to?

Done it mate, stepped back to move forward, scary.

I cant knock him for getting rich doing **** all, who wouldnt, i'd like to get rich by picking 6 numbers

What i dont get is the harper fest, coz he's achieved nowt apart from having a family connection at the club since an early age, yet he's getting legendary status, for what?

I'd never call him a legend. Just a bloke who was obviously good at what he did and got paid for doing it.
It's easy to say because you don't get used you are worthless but in reality a good back up is priceless. Take Nukes for example. We've never used them but thank **** they are there just in case.

So you think he's the bomb :emoticon-0105-wink:

That suggests to me you agree he's a sponger <whistle> :p

I reckon he's let himself down and that his career is an absolute joke. I'd want to play first team and if I was clearly punching above my weight and it was clear I wasn't going to any pitch time even when training at my best than I'd drop down to a level I could compete at and contribute to my club, even if it was amatuer leagues. He clearly doesn't have enough love for the game.

But the quality of his career isn't the question here. Does he deserve a Testimonial? Yes of course he does, any other player at any other club would get one for that time severed. So should he. Even if he is a loser.

How does that make him a sponger??? I'd never take a step down voluntarily. Why should I? I worked hard to get up the ladder. Why should he?
If he was turning up late, pissed saying he couldn't play fair enough but his club paid him what they thought he was worth, they didn't have to.
Seems to me he found a club he was happy with and they were happy to keep him. Unfortunately for him Mr Given was there to.

ok then in a monetary sense, if your gaffers, gaffer said on the q.t, keep your salary and step down to do the job below and prove yourself and you can have your gaffers job would you take the chance?

I find it very difficult to take his career seriously personally. I think he is a joke figure who has become a cult figure for the nags without having earned that accolade.

Nice fella but totally dismissed as a serious professional foorballer IMO.

Why? They get 20,000 tonight say at an average ticket price of £7.50 = £150k

He could have just donated it himself from the fortunes he has amassed from being an unambitious bench warming git

As you will have seen, we were a bit over 20,000 by about 30,000.

Joking aside though....at the end of the day, Mackem or Mag we look after our own and give respect where it's due and where charities are involved we dig deeper than most (even though we don't earn much).

PDC was class tonight, playing up to the crowd and to a man people I know gave him, both a clap and a panto villain boo. We appreciate gestures and it took a lot of balls for him to step out tonight so big up to him, he's gone up in my estimation.

Strip away rivalry and tonight was about a North East club saying goodbye to a loyal and passionate local born player, as well as earning money for very worthwhile causes.

Well done to all involved I say.

Aye, spot on mate, some worthwhile causes have benefited tonight so fair play to all concerned.

By who, you? I suppose you're able to cast down your damning judgement on him from the pedestal of your glittering career in ........ what exactly? I think Steve will sleep soundly tonight, and for many more, never troubled by your worthless opinion of a career you only wish you had <ok>
