This is a churlish & spiteful thread imo.

He could have moved on several times in his career(and made a canny wedge from signing on fees etc) and decided to stay put, who are we to criticise, it is loyalty in some shape or form.

Another angle is that he is doing no worse than Quinny.

The money is going to good causes, can we not just applaud him for that?

100% agreed. If he was an ex-Sunderland player he would be lauded as the next best thing. As he is an ex-Newcastle player then he is a sponging lazy twat - fickle springs to mind. There is very little, if no loyalty in football these days, this lad shows **** loads of it and gets slated for it. His loyalty should be applauded and for that I do<applause>

Loyalty or lack of ambition? I think its the latter!

He could have moved on to other bigger clubs, his ambition has always to be the No1 keeper at Newcastle(each to their own), he was true enough to himself to try and fulfill his ambition.

Many a person would give their right arm to have 20 years on the playing staff at Sunderland and here are some having a go at him for doing just that.

You just don;t get it mate do you. He could have moved on to other bigger clubs, his ambition has always to be the No1 keeper at Newcastle(each to their own), he was true enough to himself to try and fulfill his ambition.

Could you back this up?

Plenty of jealousy on here tonight.
I'd swap his career path for mine any day of the week. It really isn't in a players interest to stay at one club, they lose out on signing on fees.
As for a lack of ambition? He was plying his trade in the best league in the world, I'm not really sure how he could show any more ambition by moving sideways or worse still, downwards.
Good luck to the jammy begger.

But thats the thing, who wouldn't want the life of a footballer? They are lucky in the sense that they get paid a fortune to play a game they love. The money issues they have might involve how much more thousands they will get each week. It doesn't matter where you play, you won't struggly to put food on the table.

Honestly i'd be slightly embarassed tbh, he's been on soccer am, real radio, look north, in the papers to celebrate what? To have worked for 10,510,000 minutes and spent a maximum of 14,130 on the pitch, come off it

True but maybe he had reasons for not wanting to leave the North East, family etc.

Nail on the head mate, happy with the life of a footballer (as we all would) i'd have been happier to earn just the £7.5m over 20 years and play every week

For normal folk though, you go where the graft is. If you're lucky enough thats around where you want to be, if not, lucky you if your family/partner etc are willing to come with. Or you find 'lesser' work in order to stay local.

Lucky git.

PDC..You little green eye'd monster you <laugh>
I'd give my left kidney for one minute in a Premier league game.

Far from jealous marra, i would aswell, but i wouldnt keep the bench warm for 20 years, i'd have gone to boro or leeds or ipswich or somewhere for first team footy, i might have even dropped down to £200k per year plus sponsorship mind, just a cool £4m plus
