Quotes from Sporting Life Website:

Aidan O'Brien has hailed juvenile star Australia as a dream horse following his dazzling Leopardstown victory over the weekend.

"Everyone probably knows we always thought he was the best horse we've ever had," O'Brien said.

"I don't want to be blowing up the horse but he was always doing things no two-year-old has ever done before."

Australia holds a clutch of entries in the big autumn juvenile events, including the Dewhurst Stakes and the Racing Post Trophy, but O'Brien will defer to the owning Coolmore syndicate as to future plans.
He said: "The lads will decide that, but he's something you dream of."

What a pedigree this horse has got though! By old boy Galileo out of the Ouija Board. And given how Australia performed on Saturday he could emulate both his parents and win a Classic himself. 8/1 for next terms 2,000 Guineas and just 6/1 for the 2014 Derby.

Here’s a ponderable for the great brains on the forum then to celebrate the rise of Australia. Name the last horse to win a UK Classic who’s sire and dam also won UK Classics. The first correct answer wins a ‘Barney Bonus’.

Ah that old chestnut!

I'd be very wary, the mare has failed to produce anything of real note in her previous 3 foals, though I am told they've all had varying problems (bad knees, blindness in one eye, retained testicles, etc).

Top class mares usually fail to produce the goods at stud, there are a number of theories as to why (high testosterone levels that are great for racing but poor for breeding, etc).

Barney the answer is Sixties Icon (St Leger winner), by Galileo (Derby winner) out of Love Divine (Oaks winner). There is a Sea the Stars 2yo out of the mare, making him by a Classic winner, out of a Classic winner and half-brother to a Classic winner.

Wow he must be fantastic. I think I'll sell the house and live in a tent, and put all the proceeds on Australia to win the 2000Gns and Derby.

With my winnings I will then buy a nice house by the sea and take the family on a cruise. Or commit suicide.

Correct. And of course the other claim to fame re Sixties Icon’s St Leger is that it was run at York (due to Donny’s redevelopment).

Serious money going on Australia at the moment for next year's Derby ('blue' with many bookmakers on Oddschecker) and now down to just 4/1 with Ladbrokes!

Oh Aidan, you'll soon be changing that little fern you use at the races (after a winner) to a big tablet deal? Make sure you have an Aldi plastic bag for it though...............

You would have thought he would have learned by now what with Camalot turning out to be anything but the best he ever trained. It's very simple Aidan when they surpass what the others have then it sounds sensible until then, we don't believe you.

I hate the smug prick - every horse is the best and the new Pegasus - it must really gripe coolmore that for all the billions they have - they will never have one as good as Juddmonte and Frankel the wonder horse :)

That's why it was so refreshing to have Sir Henry hold back on declaring Frankel the best he'd trained until after York. Can you imagine the hyperbole had Coolmore ended up with Frankel????

Princess so true - that imbecile O'Brien keeps saying it nearly every year now - st Nicholas - Frankel blitzed him by nearly 8 lengths on the bridle - Camelot - won a weak 2000g and awful Derby and now Australia !! What a joke coolmore and their puppet master O'Brien are :) - Frankel would not have won 14/14 because they would have probably ran him over 5f or the Gold cup with fat arse Joseph on board - sorry rant over !!

Nice to know I'm not the only person who has AOB at the bottom of their favourite trainers' list.

I think, people, that some are being very harsh on Mr O’Brien here. Let’s not forget that Ballydoyle and Coolmore are commercial operations and therefore, on occasion, statements have to be made which have business implications.

The simple fact is that to survive ‘the lads’ have to be commercial viable and make profits. Their entire business depends on this. Let’s not forget that their operation is based on the ability to make solid business and commercial decisions and that the whole future of the organisation relies on this continuing not only for the short term but the long term one as well. Like almost all modern day ventures if they don’t do this losses are suffered and, if this persists, they go broke.

Unlike a large proportion of the top owners in our sport the Coolmore ‘outfit’ is not funded by desecrating and oppressing a nation.

DAYO you really must get off the fence! <rofl>

Blue and Barney balanced as always.

I think these days all trainers are guilty of "bigging up" their inmates to an extent.

Jim Bolger used to be the most circumspect of trainers until his owner breeder operation took off.He has stated openly that to survive he has to sell his interests in the sales ring. This patently extends to selling it in the media and into the minds of potential suitors.

I see great similarities between DA and Camelot and the hype attributed to both.Bolger consistently refers to him as "awesome" which is hard to believe given his last four efforts..Sheikh Mo described him as the best miler in the world after RA which is fanciful in the extreme.

Godolphin christened Saamidd "pegasus" after his win in the Champagne stakes which was frankly ridiculous given that he placed only once in his next eight starts.

Stoute's bullish critique of Carlton House was equally errant.

These are just a few examples and given the fact that a mic is rammed in everyones face after every horse runs it isn't surprising that connections of horses can be caught off guard and remarks extrapolated out of context.

Dermot Weld was reported to be have been gushing over Free Eagle which was complete nonsense. Now,he is one of the few who always stays in the moment yet the press seized on his guarded remarks after the horses debut and ran with them. Before his defeat to the best horse ever at Ballydoyle,Weld again made it clear on ATR that he was a nice colt but would be a 12f 3-y-o...all to no avail and it certainly didn't stop the racing media trying to burst a never inflated bubble.

I think it boils down to personalities rather than training ability when one aligns their allegiances.

I think it might make for an interesting thread to discuss our least favourite people!..

AO'B has a bit of catching up to do..at least he's only bottom of Ron's "favourite trainer" list and not his least favourite trainer list!!..<laugh><ok>

Perhaps if he wins the Leger he may even get DAYO back on side!!..<rofl>

Who knows Australis may be the best he has ever trained!!..If you shoot enough bullets..<laugh>

Dex - he could win the next 5 ledgers and I still would not have time for the fiddling coolmore puppet. The sooner Coolmore and O'Brien stop showing nepotism towards fat a**e Joseph and send him to the Jump jockeys rota the better as he is a very average jockey at best :( - also why does he wear sunshades all year round FFS ?? Got problems with his eyes or something sinister to hide me thinks haha :)
