Lambert's has certainly done himself a big favour with today's performance, and it leaves us in hope that he'll make the squad for this summer's World Cup in Rio. Typically, 4 strikers are named in the 23-man squad. So, which 4 strikers, at this point in time, should make the squad (Walcott being counted as a midfielder)?

I sincerely hope Carroll doesn't get a look in for any future England squad.

Well, until Rickie has retired from international football after the 2014 World Cup then everyone realizes how thick they were for picking Carroll ahead of Lambert at first.

Rooney, Bent, Defoe and Crouch, because if you were pretty good five years ago, that's enough.

Well I think you've put them in order of likelihood for us! It's a long season though and anyone could put themselves into (or out of) contention yet.

If Carroll has a good season, he should make it, very good player at what he does, which is be a problem in both boxes. People underrate him massively.

It's as Allardyce said. It'll be Rooney, Sturridge and Welbeck barring injury.

He then believes it is Andy vs Rickie for the final spot. He says Lambert is impressive and has had a head-start, so when Andy gets back from injury he hopes it riles him up and gets him on song.

If Carroll is on song this season, or heading into the summer, he will most likely go. I do think Rickie has got the "reserve" position of fifth striker, at least, sewn up at current.

If someone does drop out, I'd not be so surprised to see him get a call.

Also, as a BBC guy said this evening, if Lambert scores again in the Ukraine game... the heat is on Hodgson.

Carroll at his best is not as good as Lambert in average form.

Hes not hes stating a reasonable opinion. Lambert has many more dimensions to his game, carrolls far too raw still, cant pick a pass nor finish as well. The only thing he does better is win headers, and SRL isnt exactly terrible at that..

I can't believe after last night that people are still saying Carroll is a better option than Lambert. Rickie showed that, like Rooney, he has both a natural striker's instinct for a goal, combined with an attacking midfielder's eye for the killer pass. As well as Wellbeck's pair, he also nearly laid on 2 goals for Walcott. Carroll is only comparable to Rickie as a big lump in the box. Everything else Rickie contributes leaves Carroll way behind.

Blimey, don't think I've seen a poll with such clear winners before. For what it's worth, I'm not a big fan of Rooney and think he's massively overrated, but tbf he's probably better than the other options.

People should not under estimate Carroll. He is quite good at what he does.........Lambert is the better all rounder in my view because he manages to hold the ball better and is a better distributer. His assists last night are testament to that along with his awareness of what is around him. Carroll has his youth which is a big advantage and I agree with others that it is going to depend on what kind of season either has.

    I went for Rooney/Welbeck/Sturridge/Lambert

I guess Welbeck/Sturridge maybe a bit "samey" - Defoe would have to come into consideration

Oh - and Lambert can takes pens!!
