£1.8m, and he was clearly bought to score some goals to get us over the line regarding promotion. I'd say that's cheap considering without him we may not have made it.

Lee was free, though his salary was quite generous from what I head. I think he was bought with the premier league in mind but for whatever reason (injuries, failing to adapt, etc) he didn't reach the level that was expected.

I understand where you are coming from and yes realise they were bought to get us over the line as it were. Surely though that would or should have been only part of the reason? Do you not think we should have been looking to the future as well when making those purchases. Neither have been give even the faintest of chances in the premier. Not even as a bit player in the cups or friendlies.
Something for me just is not right over these two in particular for me. Accepting of course that I am not the manager and don't make the decisions....<laugh>

It would have been nice if we could have bought someone like Rodriguez who could probably have scored some goals and been effective in the premier league as well, but without promotion secured we probably wouldn't have been able to afford/attract that kind of player. It's counterintuitive that we buy a player to improve the team and then he is deemed unfit to play when others we already had are still there, but that's how things work out sometimes I guess.

Sharp did make a few appearances in the PL remember, and I imagine had we not been able to get Rodriguez he would have played more. He just doesn't offer as much as our other forwards though; he's a good poacher, but his link-up play isn't very good and he can't play on the wing, so even if he was considered good enough, he would have found his chances limited for that reason.

Lee has been given a squad number apparently, and he's had his picture updated to the latest versions on the website. I wonder if he's going to get an opportunity?

It's a photoshop from last year. That body clearly isn't his, and he has the same expression/hair style as last year <laugh>

Southampton striker Billy Sharp is wanted by Reading, Leeds, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster when the loan transfer window opens up this week. But the 27-year-old fears he may have to stay as the Saints are refusing to subsidise his £18,000-a-week wages.

I have a strong desire to bang heads together, but I reserve my greatest ire for SFC...subsidise the guy's wages for God's sake...stop trying to save peanuts because you think you have Billy over a barrel. He has done nothing wrong (that we know about).

The message that I am getting over this saga.......is that they are not getting Billy on the cheap. There seems to be a little bit of Cortese getting his own back as when we were trying to obtain players when we were in the lower leagues every thing we had to do was at the full rate whether it was loans or purchases. Very little compromise....... Sound familiar?
