Lots of rumours PNP, but few facts to back all that up.
Regardless of that, to offload your (and one of the PL's) best LB's over the hotel issue sounds like a phrase that includes a gun and a foot!!
And that notwithstanding, my original point (back this morning) was that the LOAN of Benny, at his age/stage of career, makes no business sense whatsoever. Now I am a supporter of AVB in many ways, but if he starts to ostracise any players that show any degree of character or even rebelliousness, that doesn't sit well with me. There were many on this board whose main gripe with Harry was that he had his favourites and drove others away. Hope we are not going down the same route with AVB.......
I am just starting to wonder if AVB is still suffering with an insecurity problem from his Chav days: targeting the older and more independent players and gathering a squad or more impressionable youngsters and new recruits around him. just a thought......
Thats the problem, its the wrong one, the set location is Enfield! sorry but if you're a team, you should do everything as a team, and that includes meet and travel. Its a coach, not a bus picking up dreadfully inconvenienced players en route. Wanting to do it differently is Benny all over, its his well paid job, just do it or do one seems to be his choice...and at least he was given one. No matter how small, any favouring for any reason can backfire down the line, not even to do with Benny himself, another player could cite, "well you do that for Benoit". If you're going to maintain good discipline, rules have to apply to all. Seems to be a big difference under Harry and AVB, but as pro's such stuff shouldn't be an issue really.
I'd agree with some of that SOTM, but Spurcat has hinted at discipline problems that have also involved Adebayor, so it's more than a rumour, in my opinion.
Loaning him out does seem to make little sense, but I think it's a last resort. Selling him didn't seem to work and I think this is a way to remove a disruptive influence and still retain the possibility of a future fee.
Villas-Boas doesn't seem to do favourites, as far as I can tell. We rotated heavily wherever possible last season and players who started out of the side ended up playing a lot of games.
Dawson's probably the best example, though injuries in his position could be pointed to as a reason for his change in fortunes.
Townsend forcing his way into the side this season would be another example, for me.

I am all for rules, I've been in the miliary for fecks sake! What benefit to the club / team does the rule about everyone going to Enfield to get a coach to Canary Wharf have? This is a *home* game after all. I am sure there are plenty of opportunities for team bonding etc other than a coach trip across London - like turning up for training each day, getting a coach to go to an away game etc. They are still together before the game and I would suggest being on a coach together for the (perhaps frustrating trip across traffic filled London) is a very minor part of the pre-match ritual. If they have to stay together in a hotel before an away game, then let them take the club transport or get there by whatever means they want. You can't build a team on petty rules, because it blurs the lines on what is most important. If someone can demonstrate why this coach journey is important *other than* "because it's the rule" then please let me know, otherwise I would suggest rules for rules sake are actually more detrimental then beneficial. I make no comment about other disciplinary issues, but specifically regarding the coach journey then I am very much with BAE on this. If you are going to have rules then it would help if they make sense, and making people obey ridiculous ones is not the way forward.

Not impressed with that argument. If you want a team full of cyphers ok, but forcing all to a one size fits all regime will end in tears IMO. It's quite possible to have discipline with flexibility and rules that are for the benefit of all rather than the ego of one.

Thing is, this is the way things work at clubs and has done for years, I'm surprised with the anti about the subject tbh, if only the player could apply such determination to get his place back by playing football, instead of whining about some mileage and logistics, I'd say that is a more concerning issue.
The one thing I would say is the location of the hotel, Canary Wharf?...why?...must be a decent hotel in N.London or its outskirts?

Exactly what i was thinking, well quiet on him, no takers in the TW either, a rumour or two but nothing that had legs in it, not sure how to take that either, he's here till Jan is one thing we do know.

Thing is its repeated Spurf. From Benny's point of view he has to know that after being fined a first time, that powers that be top to bottom are united on the issue. Knowing you're not going to get anywhere should be the point you just get over and get on with it, doesn't matter now at this point about right or wrong, but to continue to fly in the face is a worrying trait if you think about it. Its matters not a jot now about the issue, the response has been "I don't care if you fine me I'm still doing it", sorry Spurf but its his actions in front of young players at the club at this point that is poor and unacceptable. It would seem to me the issue has gone beyond repair, AVB and management would be severely undermined to reverse it now after repeated showings of petulance. Its just not a good precedent and too much has happened I think, you can bet every single player at the club was/is secretly waiting the outcome, to know where they stand.
A compromise where nobody has to back down would be to change hotel, but that boats sailed I think.

You don't lose any control or credibility being a bit flexible. If you want to make a point, make it on a point that makes sense to everyone. To have rules and insist they are followed "because that's the rules" is not going to work and I am little concerned to hear that this is the regime at Spurs. If you are in charge then know when you need to be in charge and know when you can be relaxed. This seems more like the petty tyrants I have come across in some large companies I've worked in, and nothing like how real leaders work. This shouldn't have been allowed to get this far and has possibly left us weaker than we need to be on the pitch.
Draconian is the word I used previously...some of us are "free spirits" and should be accorded the freedom to act so. Key measurement for me at work is my "output" - doesn't matter how I do it, as long as I do a good job and on time. If I were in an atmosphere of strict rules and draconian measures, I would simply not flourish!
