Annoying subscription...

Can i make a suggestion to this site? Whilst i'm sure there are some people out there that quite enjoy the idea of a subscription, others don't. Whenever i start a new thread or comment on someone else's, i then find a bunch of emails telling me who's posted and when. Frankly i'm not that desperate to hear when someone replies, i'll find it in my own time. It just clogs up my emails. The problem is that when you write a new article or comment, you can't see the section that says 'subscription' as it's too low under the additional options section. I don't mind it being there but surely it makes far more sense for it to be automatically unticked given it's under the heading 'additional'. If we want a subscription, we tick it, simple as that.

ok people, you can stop it easily -

go to forum actions (under freely in blue banner)
select general settings
go down to 'Default thread subscription mode'
change setting to 'Through my control panel only'

That should stop emails for any new threads you start or contribute to but you will have to wait for existing subscription threads to die before the emails stop on them

Thats not really good enough mate as you shouldn't force subscriptions on users, the setting should be off by default so unless you want to annoy new members that come from 606 then its best you change that.

I'm personally not fussed about the setting as the email address I used to sign up with is one I never check but I know most people use the same email for everything and it should be off by default on sign up.

Neither have I... Never received a single email. Just turn it off mate, problem solved.

It is a bit naughty to make people opt-out rather than opt-in, its very facebook like.

That said I got loads of emails on one occasion so I just changed my settings and haven't received anything since

So i turned all my subscriptions off last week but am still getting emails, very annoying.

All subscriptions were from old threads though so am I now email-free from not606???

I did the same CH, but it didn't work.
I think that you have to delete all of your old subscriptions to stop getting them, but I'm not 100%.
