Firstly he is mates with Brady and McShane - they were both at his wedding this summer. Not sure it's particularly relevant in relation to this deal though. Ultimately it will be about money and what role Bruce sees him playing. In response to AKCJ: it sounds like a lot but when you consider WBA spent between 6-8 million on him (depending where you read) it makes more sense. There was even a story of Liverpool sniffing around last year for £10 million (12 in some of the less reputable papers). £5 million doesn't go too far nowadays. Roughly equal to a Matt Mills or Akinbiyi if I remember correctly? Basically, it's a good deal if we pull it off.
People laugh, but when Bullard played, he was the best player I'd seen play for City. Granted, he didn't play much.
Would have preferred Vollen at that price. Not a bad signing, still think Graham's better. Hopefully they both prove me wrong and both are class for us. I personally wouldn't have paid £5m for him, but as has been said, he's a stricker and this is the premier league, they don't come cheap.
Think this would be a good buy!. I keep saying we need a pacey striker and I can definitely see him getting behind defences. I think our game will really suit him too and he would compliment having either Sagbo or Graham upfront. I think west brom play a different style to us, so it might look a risk now but come the end of the season if its £5 mil it will be nothing to the money we get for staying up. Bruce has bought right up to now by the looks of things so in Steve Bruce I trust.
Enjoy watching Hull Tigers in the Premier League next season. Don't forget your blanket and your Werther's.
So you're saying he's buying our silence? This is irrelevant. Earlier on people were saying they were being stingy becaue Bruce was acting as if we wouldn't be bringing someone in , especially not for £5million.
On the one hand I'm happy, as I think we could have a good season (certainly more so than I did in June). On the other, I know that if we stay up then the name-change is a foregone conclusion, and that this could prove to be my last season watching the club until the Allams **** off and the name is returned to normal.
Long is a terrific player with pace and can score the goals. Would be ideal for us if this is true....far far better than Graham who can go back to Sunderland in January. if we can combine Longs breakaway speed with Alukos and Gedos strength and opportunism in the box we'd have a great strike force. If we can get him for 5 mill. and he can get us the key goals we need, and add Gedo on a one-year loan would be another brilliant piece of business for SB. Selling Fryatt to Forest would pay for Gedo. Just hope these two deals come off before the deadline...3 hours to go!!! Squeaky bum time.
