From the sounds of it I am choosing the wrong airlines! Though, picking airlines just on their films would be slightly weird.

It would, but I've always been impressed with Delta when I go to the States. The food is, well, ok but good for an airline and they have good entertainment systems.

I've embarassingly never been to the US. It's weird I know, I've just never really had the opportunity.

yea if you like idiot abroad, you will like the ricky gervais radio podcast. Just Karl and Ricky being hilarious

Anyone on here ever had the Yellow Fever vaccine? I've just had it and I already feel like I'm going to die.

Bad times man, can't be as bad as Yellow Fever itself though... think of that! Where are you going?

Spending 2 months in Gambia from October. I've always reacted horribly to vaccinations, but like you say, better than getting the actual disease!

I'm looking forward to it, apparently it's a lovely place.

Yeah, I don't know about where you are staying but the disparity between the hotels and the areas immediately surrounding them can be quite shocking and profound. I found the same in the Dominican Republic when I went there a few years ago - we gave paper and pencils/pens to the kids at the local school on a trip and they were so grateful I swear the teacher was going to cry. We also gave the kids some Starburst which they went absolutely mental for

Staying in a guesthouse so not quite hotel. I know there's lots of poverty and slums over there. Hoping at some point in the 2 months to maybe spend a few days living with a local family, just to get a feel for what it's like. It's not exactly an original idea anymore, but an experience none the less. We're taking pens and stuff for schools as you did, and even hoping to do a little volunteering in a few schools as well as taking footballs and kits to try and get them into it. Should be a productive 2 months.

It'll certainly be an eye-opener. Never done anything like it before, heavily out of the comfort zone!

The best things usually are. I spent 6 months in the Philippines about 10 years ago, then the same in Fiji. It's that stuff you'll remember for the rest of your life, not sitting behind a desk in an office.....

Agree .

Spent my youth ( 2 - 8 ish ) in Africa , don't actually remember it ALL , but what I do remember I will cherish for ever . Basically if you get the chance to visit other parts of the world , do it !

That looks like an amazing part of the world. I've always wanted to go to Vietnam and the Philippines. One day hopefully.

Yep, had them when I went to Kenya with Saints Foundation in 2010... no side effects at all.

Enjoy it. Stay open minded to anything you see that you don't like (poverty or treatment of people, etc) and remember that what is the 'norm' to you, may not be the 'norm' for them.
