The FA office is closed over the weekend so after friday night we wouldn't hear anything until monday. So i didn't expect any news today anyway. I'm certain we will sign players, i'm just waiting to see if they are good enough signings or not. I don't believe Wenger will let the window close with the squad this thin.
Why wait? What's the advantage of waiting until the last day of the window?? We have had minimun of £70 Million available to spend all Summer. (£155 million in the bank) We can all mis-read what the Boss says in an interview (particularly as he regularly contradicts himself). For me there's two scenarios here.. 1. We are now TERRIBLE at landing our targets. So we know for sure Arsenal have bid for Suarez, Cabaye and Sven Bender. None of these players were followed up by secondry bids. We showed an interest in Higuian by contacted his agent.. yet he went to Napoli. The other option is.. 2. Wenger is REFUSING to spend big. It would make sense .. hence only offering one price.. not negotiating. We submit a bid then back out if the other Club rejects. It's bizarre but I honestly think our lack of action is down to the Boss's reluctance to spend money. If you really want to land a TOP player you need work hard, convince them we are worth joining and negotiate a fee. Just look at how Madrid have gone after Bale.. This is the player they want and they will fight to land him.
wenger doesn't have a problem spending money, he has a problem spending more than he thinks the player is worth. he has a set price in his head of how much the player is worth. if the other club want more money than that, arsenal won't go for it. usually, our first bid will be the maximum. occasionally wenger will bid more (i.e. suarez) afterwards, but most of the time he will move on to other targets. this has worked fine in the past when we have needed to save, because he bought sparingly and cheaply. but now that he has money to spend (and other clubs know this), then they will demand more money because they know we can afford it, only for wengers stubborness to step in.
Agree with some of the posters about saying that Wenger does too much and should focus on pure footballing matters on the pitch. Now will Wenger want to relinquish all the responsibilty (look at his background) and will the board or owner want this. The man is a ****ing genius and a financial heaven send, why the hell would you want to change things, it's a business mans wet dream. The proof of Wengers genius is him winning nothing in 8 years yet making Arsenal one of the most profitable football clubs in the world. It's amazing. Name me one name that can make this much money from winning nothing, yes no one. Thats why Wenger will never be sacked as long as he keeps that Champions league qualification money rolling in and even if he hypothetically fails this year, he'll just buy some players and grab that position again. He has too much experience and know how to get that coveted 4th spot.
I feel that AW is going to retire when his contract runs out. When it does happen make him Arsenal's Financial Director
However is the competently handled transfer window going I wonder... Said it was a shambles more than a month ago I just have no words for it now. It has gotten so desperate that now getting only Di Maria will be spun as a huge success, when the team needed a minimum 4 quality players to just have a squad that can handle all competitions, let alone compete for the title.
Why thank you young sir. Coming back to transfers, I can still see Wenger wanting to get some players in. It would be far too risky and simply insane for Wenger to start this season with just one new signing (Sinogo is not ready). Spurs have heavily reinforced and will be a handful for any team in the league Even if we beat Spurs this weekend, it will have little effect on the overall season, it'll just give the victor bragging rights. If we don't intend to compete for the league, then we at least have to stay in the Champions league, in the faint hope for things to change next season. Look what happens to a previously great team suffer in this years transfer window due to not being in the Champions league. Players simply don't want to come to you. We can not let this happen to us.
It's happen already its a new era in football first Chelsea with money soon other teams with clever managers. The early birds always gets there worm.
Ha! Kaka is a position Arsenal don't really need to strengthen. He'd be a welcome addition but would have been nowhere near first choice at the start of summer. Straws and clutching.
Apparently we've had a bid accepted for one of the "Madrid 3" I'm waiting for a phone call from a source to confirm this
Signing Kaka would free up Cazorla to cover the LWF spot so i can see it being an ok solution. Kaka is still a very good player and who knows how good he can be given a string of games in the team. He was once the best player in the world. He definately still has something to add to a top team and at a time when we need squad depth i wouldn't say no. I've read some Kaka quotes and it sounds like he is willing to work hard to make an impact somewhere and he has made it clear to Madrid he no longer wants to be there and it is likely he will be allowed to go out on loan or leave on a transfer (i even saw a rumour he would be let go on a free transfer). Plus in a year leading up to a WC in Brazil he will be desperate to impress enough to make sure he gets a spot in that squad. Brazillians will be believing they can win the WC this time around with there home advantage and it wouldn't suprise me if a few of them have very good seasons in the hope of a spot in the squad. Kaka is one of these players with something to prove and so i think it's very likely he will move clubs, no idea if we will be the ones who get him or not though. Again i wouldn't be happy if that is the only signing though, we need to bring in at the very minimum 2-3 players, preferably 3-4. But it would be a good signing.
