Thing is that none of the candidates to replace Lennon have proven much at the club yet. I'd like to be sure that we have better options before casting Lennon aside. I think he's proven to be an effective weapon and hard worker for Spurs and there's many an exciting new signing that never gets to claim that.
I know people aren't saying it's a good idea - just that it might happen - and I can see that as a possibility myself. But think it would be a bit rash at this early stage to say that we won't miss him cos Lamela, Townsend etc can definitely provide something better. (Hope they can though, obviously).
This homegrown thing is going to become so relevant too. That alone makes Lennon more valuable. How many EPL-quality homegrown players are out there which are not 10m+ and/or a bit crap? If we've got to have British(ish) players then Lennon, Defoe etc aren't bad shouts. Who else would we get that was good enough?

I'd say Townsend's had a good start to be fair. 1 goal, 2 assists and a penalty in 2 games is pretty good going.
Chadli has created the 3rd most chances (7) in the league so far behind Benteke and Hazard, though Benteke and Hazard have played 3 league games to Chadli's 2.
With Lamela here now (or soon to be anyway), I think Lennon's going to find it hard getting back into the team. I hope we don't sell him but if he feels he needs to leave to improve his England chances I would respect that. I'd definitely miss him as he's a great player. In fairness to Azza, he's fought off competition before with Bentley, Gio, Sig and Dempsey so it depends if he fancies another challenge or not.
On spurscommunity there are a couple of bits about Siggy. In a nutshell:
Sig wants to be a starter, not a squad player
Talk of a loan or permanent deal for him to go back to Germany
AVB will reluctantly agree as he likes Sig as a person
Also:
Halilovic being held up by father who could be playing silly buggers. The deal is basically agreed but father is mulling it over.
Benny failed medical in france, so is proving hard to shift. Now wants to stay (but workrate and discipline need improving)

I saw him preseason last year against Liverpool. He looked good, he held the ball up and dribbled well, but he had a half to three quarter chance and missed. I had the sense that was one he needed to give him confidence. Seeing him hit the bar again against Dinamo I had the same feeling. He may just be good enough, but the ideal thing would be a loan spell somewhere he could play every day and get used to scoring. He might just have it in him to be a big club striker, but it's too early to say yet.
I can hardly believe that I and other people are suggesting we move Lennon, easily one of our best players last year, at least until he got injured. It's amazing how many excellent wide players we've brought in. I feel bad, because he's been so great for us, and seemed like a model player.
So...either keep him or get a great price on him, which ought to be possible. He's still youngish, and there aren't too many better wide players.
Gylfi has been one of my favorites. I'm not sure I've seen a single player run and work as hard as he has, which is one of the reasons I like having him on the field: it rubs off. If he wants to start, we should sell him, hopefully for a very good place. Most clubs would be overjoyed with him.
If, as seems hopeful, we get both Lamela & Erikson, then we will certainly have one of the strongest squads in e Premiership. For the first time in quite a while, we will have some real depth.
Having to sell Bale was never going to be an ideal scenario, players like him are game changers. They bring that touch of magic that changes the whole direction and outcome of a game. The upside is that we will be a far better TEAM. We will, hopefully, give teams far more to worry about than just watching out for one player.

Lamela, Ericksen will be game changers , even Townsend may have that ability all built on a far more solid backbone.

If the club can persevere so long with Obika, I think they can be lenient with Kane.

So Chadli's created 7 chances on his own, so much for us creating hardly any chances. As I've been saying, we clearly are creating chances. PNP had a stat we'd created the most chances in the Prem up till sunday night at least. So how can Creating the MOST chances equal hardly creating any chances?

Of course Chadli and the rest of the team have created chances but how many of them have been speculative long range shots from Paulinho/Capoue? Now we aren't playing with someone like Bale we need something a bit different, we need the kind of crosses and through balls that Soldado will thrive on rather than the half chances around the box that Bale was putting away for fun last year. The team are getting there in terms of their adaptation to life after Bale and the lack of a proper playmaker is hampering us in terms of linking the plays and having the vision to play the right balls for our strikers and wingers for a higher percentage of the time. I think we're making chances but not necessarily the right kind of chances, if you see what I mean.
In other words we're looking at a less drastic version of the start of last season IMO, in terms of a change of playing style affecting the team's results. We're adapting to playing in a slightly different formation and we are without a player whose individual quality is irreplaceable. BUT unlike last year we're still winning games despite clearly not playing at our best and missing a playmaker, and if you look at the games in detail we could be considered unlucky not to have won each by more than one - Defoe's late misses at Palace and the numerous fluffed chances (both in the buildup and when in on goal) against Swansea spring to mind. Its all coming together though, we look better with each game, and Lamela and Eriksen (if that happens) could well be the final pieces of the jigsaw. NLD could be coming a bit too early for us but we certainly look combative enough to get a draw at least, barring catastrophe from us or brilliance from Arsenal.
