If, as reports said, there was a transfer chain of Willian to Spurs, Bale to Factitious Madrid, Coentrao to Spurs, we're not fussed at all - Willian joining Chelsea means the chain collapsed at one end, and with Coentrao saying he wants to stay in Madrid that killed the chain completely.
Hm. Got this one horribly wrong, didn't you! United was all over Chavs like a bad rash. Shame United didn't have anyone with the guile in the final quarter to score the goal(s). Having said that, one has to take one's hat off to the Chav defence - it's the best I've seen so far.
Looks like another footballer is going to waste away at Chelsea: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...helsea-to-sign-Christian-Atsu-from-Porto.html So that makes: Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Willian, Atsu, De Bruyne, Moses and Schurrle fighting over 3 positions. Not to mention that Lampard could play there as well. I understand that managers like having cover and competition for places but this is just ridiculous. 8 people for 3 spots! Next thing we know is that Eriksen comes to Spurs for a medical and Chelsea buy him as well.
Moses is supposed to be going to Liverpool on loan any time soon, and I agree with Carrick, buying Atsu must mean Mata is out of the door. Bloody daft, as he adds something different to the rest of them.
I honestly, truly believe that AvB should offer £30m, even £35m to £40m for Mata. He's SUCH a good player. Especially if we sell Bale. I appreciate its an inflated price and probably not what his value is to Chelsea, but he could be worth that much to Spurs! Probably a good thing I'm not the Spurs chairman ...
Why would Mata even want to go to Spurs? Mourinho has explained why Mata hasn't been playing and has said he's staying here.
Wasn't he one of the Chelsea players closest to AVB? Perhaps AVB can sell "the project" to him, then a player might be tempted. Not like we are Stoke is it.
He's our best player ffs. You're believing the same media you lot slated for the Bale saga. Again, Mourinho has stated why he hasn't been selected. On what basis? He's one of the best players in Europe at the moment and would get into any side in the Champions League bar maybe Barcelona/Madrid. Why would he step down to the Europa League?
I'm not believing the media at all. Where have i said i think we'll get Mata? In fact i've clearly said a number of times it just won't happen. You asked why he might go to Spurs, i gave you reasons, its pretty simple
Mata might want to leave for the reasons Spurm said. Its not always about being in a team that are playing in the CL or challenging for the title. What sense of accomplishment do you think Michael Owen feels when he looks at his Utd Premier League medal? Or the 2nd choice goalkeeper? I can't imagine it can be something they look at and think "I earned that, I made a difference". Call me naive, but I think that there are some footballers out there who would rather move down a notch and play regular first team football for an ambitious club than to stay at their own club, play less than 20 equivalent football matches and potentially win a title. Of course we still don't know what kind of game time Mata will get. He might remain 1st name in the attacking positions.
Fair enough. However those reasons were countered. Like I said, he could get into most sides in Europe.
Perhaps there are Lotak, but we're never going to sell him to you and why would he join when there'd be the best sides in Europe after him?
Totally agree, he could, he's a fantastic player. Would absolutely love him at Spurs, but it just won't happen, even if we could get over the MASSIVE problem of Mourinho and Roman not wanting to sell to Spurs (guessing). Assuming a fee could be agreed (which it won't), stranger things have happened than Mata agreeing to join Spurs though.
No one really thinks we'll get him, but Chelsea do seem to be cold-shouldering him at the moment. Buying Willian and, apparently, Atsu hardly sounds like a ringing endorsement. As I said, only a very close relationship with AVB (I have no idea if he has) could sway him our way, but I am not expecting it.
I agree that its unlikely Chelsea will sell to Spurs, given their recent transfer history and that Mata could get into most sides in Europe, but stranger things have happened. Don't get me wrong, I'm not deluding myself into thinking he will be featuring in the NL Derby on Sunday, but I'm hoping that something could be done to see Mata in a Spurs shirt next week. I share the same thoughts as SpursDisciple (above) We shall see what happens in the coming 4 and a bit days. ----------------------- Edit: Looks like the dream is dead. From BBC Sport: Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas rules out signing Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata. Spurs did enquire about the possibility of signing Mata, but Villas-Boas concedes there is no chance that the Blues will offload one of their players to a rival club. "First, Chelsea wouldn't sell to Tottenham in any way or form, as they think that we are title contenders," he said. "Mata is a great, great player - player of the season last season - very, very important player for Chelsea. "They're just not going to strengthen another team that, in their opinion, are rivals for the title."
Sky sources report that Mata won't be turning up to training tomorrow. We're allowed to play that game as well, right?
