And your post is another classic of taking seriously a report you wouldn't give any credence to if it wasn't another chance to ridicule Arsenal. For anyone interested in making up their own minds, the "report" is HERE I can just imagine the Arsenal financial director telling Valencia's officials "we haven't much money to spend". And just for information, Marca's record when it comes to the truth of their rumours is 14%. That probably compares with the Daily Fail.
I would have liked to seen Becchio given a chance as I think he is good enough. But a good striker like him should be playing first team football, so I don't blame him if he goes. I think he got a rotten deal coming here and didn't get treated well.
According to the 'Boro local paper today, it is Dani Ayala who is on his way north, initially on loan, with an option to buy. 'Boro are also said to have put in a 4th bid for Leeds's striker McCormack. Becchio is mentioned only as a possibility if a deal cannot be done with Leeds.
CH has denied that Ayala is going to Boro for anything more than to get some game time. Lousy Journo speculation, as is Becchio at the moment.
I think Chelsea would be crazy to swap Mata for Rooney, with or without cash. For me, Rooney has always been something of an overrated brat, and remains partly that even at age 27, or whatever age he is. Yes, he has ability, but we only make so much of it because he's English. There are plenty of players around the world who are his equal in my opinion. If City could take either Mata or Rooney, I know who I'd have any day.
I do think if Mata was really part of the Rooney offer United would have snapped Chelsea's hand off and the deal would have been done. I think most people would agree Mata is much the better player, plus the lack of top class midfielder is currently United's weakness in their squad.
Cabaye supposedly refused to play for Newcastle today. Fingers crossed their problems continue, the fewer teams firing on all cylinders in the league at the moment, the better!
In an interview CH said if the right player comes along then he will look to sign them but otherwise he is happy with the team he has. So could be another signing, I would imagine the game against Hull would have been food for thought for CH.
Bizarre! We have Wes, who we all know can either be brilliant or overcomplicate things in the extreme, Howson, who might well be the answer - if he gets some game time in that role and Butterfield, "the invisible man". Recently joined by Leroy Fer, who came mighty close to opening the scoring after about 3 minutes yesterday when deployed 'in the hole'. My guess would be no, we should - on paper at least, have enough.
McNally had probably said you've spent c£25m Chris that's enough until january I'd personally like to go back in for toivonen but I doubt we will
Totally agree. Howson should only be played as an AM., Butterfield is very much an attacking two footed AM, and the enigma that is our Wes . But I would not be averse to an upgrade on these arriving, though none of us are sure what an upgrade on Butterfield would be. His reputation in the championship would seem to indicate a very good player in the making.
I'm hoping to see good performances from Butterfield and David Fox on Tuesday night. Hopefully Olsson gets a decent run out, too, as Garrido had a 'mare against Hull
We certainly need an improved performance against Bury, if we can't break them down then it will appear we have a problem.
robbie, my post was very much tongue in cheek. knew you'd react like you did though on a side note, anyone else heard that grant holt got injured today? he also scored.
Remember that RvW's fee came out of last year's budget though, so it's only £15-16m out of this year's budget so far (doesn't it sound good to say 'only £15-16m' though!). I think there will be at least one more player coming in, but not Toivonen, as Elmander has filled that slot, IMO.
I don't think there's anything wrong with our squad now Though I think we may see one more signing in central defence!
Personally rick I don't really get the whole came out of last yrs budget when we made a profit of what £15m in the first yr of the prem. it's just timing Fact is we've spent 25m and that's a lot of money for us
Yeah I think that was a slightly simplistic statement on McNally's part mostly so fans wouldn't worry that we had no money to spend this summer and we have brought in £24m worth of new players this window. Also if we had money left over from last years budget it would have been rolled into the budget for this season anyway which makes it an irrelevant point. Another thought is we are unlikely to have paid out £24m yet we will have payment plans in place plus some of those number no doubt include add ons.
