completely agree with your assessment of cole, munky. i got some serious abuse on here when i said last season we should consider making a move for him but he's not a bad player. i do think people just look straight at strikers goal records on wikipedia or something and if it's not at least 1 in 3, they dismiss them as being 'not good enough'. like you, i'm not advocating signing him now - i'd have signed him last summer though. would do a great job for a club like cardiff, hull or palace though

I actually dont think this the worst move if he ended up with us on the short term. Low wages (comparitively to other names talked about), on a free, and likely happy enough to be 4th choice...unlikely to get too many games, and if it were to free up the pennies for one last coup of the summer, in a position we are in greater need of beefing up, I'd be happy enough.

Filling that 4th striker spot with an out and out striker, happy to play 4th fiddle in a world cup year, is going to be tough. Which is why someone like Toivonen or Powell would be appealing I suppose.

Archant are now running with elmander, based on other sources
I think this guy could be a great addition for us, he's tall (we've lost height with the change in strike force) and clearly has a good touch

Can't really argue with any of that and at least those who were anxious for us to sign another striker should now be satisfied!!! <ok>

Now all we need is a CAM and another CB - perhaps loans??/

I like Elmander, don't expect him to get a huge number of games but seems like a good option to have. I hope hasn't declined quite as much as Manky Mawkin said he has. From what I remember of him from 3 or so years ago he was a classy player.

Is he the back up option for the role CH had hoped Toivonen would play?

I was thinking today, given the ridiculous wealth of attacking options open to Chelsea this year, what do you reckon the chances would be of taking someone like Van Ginkel or perhaps even Victor Moses on loan for the season? Can't see them getting too much game time this year, they've got to be something like 7/8th choice, especially if Rooney ends up there as well.

Having slept on the idea of Elmander joining us, I'm all in favour of it tbh. We have our 1st choice strikers and all we really need is backup, who will be reasonably happy to be on the fringes of the team an won't cost lots to buy.

It's a 'win, win' signing IMO

Well at least we have finally got another striker in. not too shabby a signing either. Fairly pleased with this, but not over the moon.

Might this actually increase the chances of Toivonen signing as well? Both regulars for Sweden. <ok>

as for elmander, i think most people feel the same as i do.

not jumping for joy but pretty pleased.

we've been linked to better players this summer but elmander is still an improvement on who we had last season, so if we weren't able to get our first or second choices in then we've done the right thing and brought in a player who can do a job for a couple of years.

... and who won't cost a fortune!!! As others have said - it is similar to the Wilbraham signing by PL and a good move.

Ive seen so many people moan on Twitter about this signing, we should be buying far better blah blah blah. There are those that seem to think we have a limitless amount of money and are getting greedy. When you start getting linked to countless players for big money you then start to wonder, but it's been obvious. We tried for Ola and Quag and we failed, so we buy a stop gap until next summer. Some just want the best straight away and trying to tell them that it just doesn't work like that is impossible lol
