Comments from Joseph Sexton - Spanish football writer for STV, The Irish Examiner and World Football Daily:

"Just finished writing a piece on @SouthamptonFC's new signing Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Great fun to write!"

"On Pablo Osvaldo, I think he has all the ingredients to be a success @SouthamptonFC. Pochettino understands him better than anyone."

"Also believe he'll be a hit with fans, as at Espanyol. @SouthamptonFC's fans aren't as utterly intolerant as Roma's, surely!"

*bangs head against wall*

When will fans stop thinking about 11 players. We are creating a squad that will rotate, be flexible during games, will create competition for places, scare the bejesus out of other teams (eventually) and give me a hard on at the thought of which quality player will have to really show his stuff when he gets his chance!!

It really isn't difficult.
Of course, but it's the "who is not going to play" bit that gets me. Who said hoard talent. We have to have an improved squad and the players have to take their chance and Pochettino has to manage it, that's his job. I continually read that when we sign someone, people worry about who is not going to play; don't worry, that's Pochettino's job.

I it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. There is more of a "not getting it" by worrying about having players of top quality competing for positions. That is imperative to progress; ask Sir Alex.

As I said, it's not difficult. I also didn't say Osvaldo would be a rotation player.
I don't think anyone is concerned by worse players being displaced, if you read what I said which I am very doubtful you did I stated that I don't feel we will be able to get the best out of Osvaldo, Lambert, and Gaston.

You can trot off the annoying cliche that "it's a squad game" and "let's let the manager worry" but under pochettino Lambert and Gaston have been subdued, as has our goal scoring.

I like the way you doubt what I've read, thanks. I'll also point out both of these responses were to someone else..... not sure why you think they were to you when someone else was quoted?

From the comments I've read I don't think anyone has watched Osvaldo on this forum enough to give a good assessment of him overall as a player.

We will have to wait and see how he does, but for the 1st time since Rickie walked through the door four years ago we have genuine options upfront.

I wouldn't say Lambert has been subdued, just playing a different role.

quite possibly, he needs more support than he got on saturday though. I can't really see a front 4 of:

Ramirez -- Lambert -- Rodriguez/Lallana
-------------Osvaldo

Suiting pochettino's tactics. For one none of them is really suited to playing out wide. JWP for all my criticism of him would provide some balance away but wouldn't offer enough in attack to start at home. Playing Lambert as a CAM would reduce our flexibility and the strength of the press, playing gaston out wide would negate quite a bit of his passing skill and creativity, lallana doesn't have the pace and rodriguez doesn't have the all round game.

As a fluid 4 man attack they will be brilliant but I feel that there needs to be considerable individual and tactical improvement for that to happen i.e. less of a press.

Anyone seen the clip where he basically delibrately blocks a shot from his hand for a corner then gives a cheeky little smile afterwards. I think this is going to be an eventful season with him!

Away, I'm not a fan of the home shirt if I'm honest. I also took a punt that we may use the same away shirt next season.
