There are four levels of users IMO though: a) regulars that are on all the time; b) regulars that pop on fairly often; c) casual users that pop on once in a blue moon; and d) newbies The problem area are group a (which obviously includes both of us), we are on here a lot and often talk bollox regardless of what thread it is. Group b and c are the ones that get frustrated with the random bollox on every thread. Group d don't care because they just ****off again. How do you keep a balance baring in mind that the problem area is also the most active and put most into keeping the forum going?
For what it's worth, I think the hard core regulars and the mods on here are good. Forums are cyclical and yet we appear on here to have enough 'grounded' posters to keep the thing ticking along. Sometimes the abuse gets too much, sometimes it's just us who aren't in a good place. It can even be a mixture of the two - as it was when I threw a paddy and stomped-off! But there's always this safe haven where you'll be told the truth but accepted. It ain't perfect - but it's home. Ta
The pub thread to which we are in right now, is used for random bullshit. Make an annoucement at the top of the forum to say that all silly and random posts are to be put in the pub thread, all threads that are made will be moved to the pub thread, and if they carry on doing it then just close the thread. If they kick off then refer them to the announcement that you've made. This way us lot who are on more can enjoy the sillyness as we come in here a lot and those who want to talk footy can talk on the footy threads.
That approach would take a lot of time and would require someone to take the zero tolerance type approach. I don't like to be the 'authority figure' approach, I'd much rather be one of the regulars, hence me joining in with the bullshit most of the time. If we have to go down that route then I'd step down before implementing it
Suggest it to one of the other mods? Bluff, you can do it! Tbf though, you asked for an answer so I gave you one I know you don't want to do it but I think it can work, just need a mod to do it.
"How do you keep a balance baring in mind that the problem area is also the most active and put most into keeping the forum going?" Technically you did, but I have a feeling it was rhetorical
