    Little stat for us all,

Altidore created 2 goal scoring chances for others, 3 goal scoring chance himself from nothing, 92% pass accuracy, 3 successful interceptions and also had no goal scoring opportunities created for him in 95 mins of football.

This guy is a Volcano waiting to explode with goals but we just didnt give him any service all game, such a shame as well because for the USA he had 3 chances and took them clinically.

Get that supply sorted an we are in for a very exciting season, my only worry is that if Johnson relapses like last season, Giacherinni cant adapt and Sess leaves/is sold then we aren't going to score enough to stay up, I am KTF though as I believe in them.

Really liked the look of Altidore

Once we get a cm who can pick a pass in a split second games like Fulham won't be as hard.

Most teams would have struggled to create chances playing against Fulham's game plan

Other matches will be much more open and I'm sure we'll see Jozy thrive in front of goal

i reckon he'll be a massive asset. seems to be quite a smart cookie, too. articulate and all that in his post match interview, as much as being a beast of a player.

Was canny when the South stand belted that out, good crack I thought and I am sure he would appreciate it.

Was dubious about him if I'm honest going on his time at Hull and elsewhere, although the lads on here who had seen him play said he was a very decent striker. Not getting too excited about the one game I have seen of him or disappointed for that but, will reserve judgement until we've seen him over a few more games. Got to admit he looked totally different to what we have watched in the past from our strikers, plenty of movement pace and strong enough to knock defenders about if required. As said get the service to him sorted (this seems an on going thing now with our wingers it shouldn't be) and, we should see him hit a few into the net.

Agree totally - just wish he'd got that goal he needs (for him personally let alone the team). I was disappointed with a couple of his finishes and think he should really have got himself on the scoresheet - but he was a stand out player for us (along with Cabral) - Roberge and Celutska had decent games as well - Roberge looks good on the ball and Celutska has a cracking right foot on him - OK so we only saw it once but it looked good from where I was sat!!

One sad reality is that if MON was in charge, we probably wouldn't have conceded from that corner - he ALWAYS had men on the posts disciplined!! No-one on the post is risky IMO - however, if MON was in charge then our first game would've been against Huddersfield or someone rather than Fulham!!

Its a funny one with Roberge because he was great at bringing the ball out and shifting it out wide quickly but the one thing that he did wrong meant we lost the game, its a funny game like as if someone like Cuellar/brown played we wouldn't have had the quick spreading play but when it comes down to it they would have probably stopped the goal, no dis-service to Roberge at all its just the way it goes sometimes.

I thought Johnson had a good game and he put the ball into the box plenty. In the last 20 minutes he was our best option and kept getting it in. Got the cross to Ji who could have scored.

I'm loving Alridore but I'm not sure he is going to score lots of headers, seems better with the ball at his feet. I think him and Fletcher could be a dream ticket. On current form Sess' would be dropped to achieve this.

When will he get into the penalty area though !, and can he head a ball ?. We need that creative midfielder in the middle to get the ball to the strikers. Anyhow we should move up the table one place tonight after the Man c game !.

I think Sunderland, and the rest of the league, will look at Altidore as one of the top signings this year. I understand why other teams were put off a bit - he wasn't successful for Hull a few years back. But given his scoring record in Holland, and the fact that he's got pace and strength like DrOgba had, I think it's a smart move.

But, no, you won't split your games with Fulham this year. We'll get all six. ;)

It's pretty funny, most pundits have had nothing but good things to say about Bony (who cost double what Altidore cost) but when it comes to Altidore it's a risk because the Dutch league isn't very good and he didn't have a good season as a 19 year old in a piss poor Hull team. Granted Bony scored about 10 more goals than Altidore, but that's why he cost £12m instead of £6m

I look forward to our return fixture, by then we should have a creative cm to help our cause!

Hi Guys, Jozy definitely looks much more mature than his Hull days. As in your earlier discussion, paired with Fletcher, rather than Sessegnon I think he'll prove a good buy.

Looking at an article on Roker Report - it looks like Giaccherini and Johnson may be intended to become your creative midfielders as well as wingers - lots of cutting inside and providing the pass. Interesting to see whether PDC plays them on the "wrong" wings sometimes to give them shooting opportunities too. I think these two, settled in and on good form could be a cracking combination with Fletch and Jozy.

Good luck guys and thanks to the sensible majority for sound discussions.

Yeah Fletcher and Altidore seems like a partnership that could work, I guess only time will tell!

Di Canio definitely likes his inverted wingers so Johnson's and Giaccherini's main roles will be to cut in ideally with overlapping full-backs, creating more space etc. Nearly got all the right sort of players to fit PDC's system

Good luck to you too. I just hope Bent has an awful season <laugh>
