I admit to being wrong when I predicted we wouldn't spend so much this summer. I don't think FFP/whatever is going to be a factor (yet), always assumed the emphasis was on wages, not an expert though.

Should be okay then... right? As long as we don't go all guns blazing and spend as much next summer.

I think we'll probably be fine even if we do, that £35m is easily covered by the TV money isn't it? £65m is what the worst team in the league will get from that deal, hence a lot of the middle-tier teams splashing the cash.

Yeah basically if you're over £52m/year on the wage bill, you can't increase it by more than £4m/year. West Ham have apparently said they'd like to sign another player but they can't because of that rule!

A simple explanation of FFP can be found here: http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/financial-fair-play-explained.php

In the words of Penfold, the rodent super-sleuth.... Cripes chief!!

What an amazing signing! This sort of signing will only attract betters players come January too! We're on the bus, the wheels are rolling, buckle and enjoy the ride people-our time is now!

COYR!

Yep. It's currently set at a cap of £1m/week for those who weren't already above that figure, so we should still have a fair bit of wiggle room. Just for kicks, I went through the squad and arbitrarily assigned them either the highest-rumoured wages (ie., Gaston is on 60k and Osvaldo 80k) or a number well in excess of what they're probably making as a worst-case, and still came up about £10m below the max allowable. That was including the soon-to-be-loaned players, as well.

Blimey, just did a search on Not606 to see what the other fans were saying - may I just say a big love to our moderators (Qwerty/TSS etc) having just seen what a spectacular, unpleasant arse Sunderland have moderating their board.......

I remember that transfer fees are spread across the years of the contract, so a £12m signing on a 4 year contract counts as £3m a year (then nothing). It's a shame that reliable current wage data is not really available, I am certain it would answer a whole lot of questions about our apparently high spending.

Well, my rep bar has been absolutely tarnished by Sunderland fans, for the simple reason that I told them what his goal record was at Espanyol.

I like their mod saying he's going around looking for a video montage of Osvaldo punching teammates and opponents etc. He can look for as long as he likes, it doesn't exist because he's really not that bad.

He might like to try and pick up his brain whilst he's at it.....

Sunderland fan in peace.

To be fair to The PDC Effect he's a good lad. You guys have certainly put a bee in his bonnet for some reason though.

Best of luck with the season ahead... After next weekend.
