We need a new exciting rumour now Osvaldo appears to have said no. What about that Icelandic bloke plying his trade in the Dutch leagues?

I'd actually prefer him. Young, prolific, hungry, won't mind being benched, fits our policy and doesn't, to current knowledge, seem like a "bad egg".

Can we finally move on from trying to buy these out of range foriegn prima donnas and try and get players that will snap our hands off for an opportunity to play in the Prem with a quality club like Saints!
Try Troy Deeney for one

Unless we quickly re align our targeting of players we will either pay vastly over the odds or simply not get anyone else and that will leave us very short of good quality players.
14th place here we come!
Let's be realistic

It is worth mentioning that of our continental signings last year, only Yoshida was as good as expected to be and our cheap local purchases like Clyne and Davis were key players last season, with the latter keeping Ramirez out of the side. Guly served us well in the second half of League One and the first half of the Championship, yet I feel like he suits Serie A more as, based on highlights, he seemed to have more confidence on the ball (our fans may have ruined his) and have more time, too. Guly's hasn't ever really played in his true position for Saints and may have found it hard to adapt to different positions. Obviusly Schneiderlin is our best buy from abroad though and Boruc too, having experience in the SPL.

£7 million was a lot for Rodriguez but based on the second half of the season, it was worth it. The trouble with English players is that they cost a lot; you can spend loads on someone who knows the league or spend less on someone from abroad who may struggle to adapt. On Championship players, I'd be happy with Tom Ince as we aren't that strong out wide, has pace and will improve. Price is, again, a concern.

So you're saying that chasing quality players will leave us short of quality players so we should just sign players worse than what we have.

Oh right.

If we're talking championship, Will Hughes is definitely one to look at, but he's more for the future, although he could even have an instant impact

They were cheap due to unusual circumstances, though; Davis because of the collapse of Rangers, Clyne because his contract had expired. Clyne's price would have been around that of Rodriguez, I'd imagine, if not for that.
