I always seem to agree with your comments Cromer, we do need more service to the strikers, the Braga game showed that and I think the Sociedad game. What is the point in shiny new strikers if we don't have good enough service to them, they can't score goals if they don't have the ball!
i think the 'link' role is one that needs to be addressed but may have to wait until january or even next summer. we won't have expected to get everyone we wanted this summer and most of the key positions have been filled. i'd still like another centre back if possible but both those roles are ones which could drag on till the end of the window or even roll into the next window. if so, it's not the end of the world - we are still substantially stronger than this time last season. its not like we haven't got players who are capable in each role, even if we are looking to try and step up the quality.
More on Mounir El Hamdaoui: "The Moroccan is at Fiorentina in a desperate situation and should depart from Italy. According to La Gazetta Dello Sport , the former Tottenham striker, AZ and Ajax now an offer of Norwich under consideration." http://www.microsofttranslator.com/...ivonen-verspeelt-norwich-kans-aan-el-hamdaoui Do we need another striker though?
But we only have 3? If (please) we do see two on the pitch together at some point this season and one gets injured - god forbid, but it happens, we'd then be stretched. Or maybe Hughton has a loan pencilled in, similar to - but streets better, hopefully, than Harry Kane last season?
IMO - NO!!!!! I'd far rather spend the money on a 'Fox' type player who can spot a pass to a striker and is good enough to play it accurately!!!
I do think that the 'link play' is crucial. CH has already strengthened this with the addition of Fer and Redmond, but I'd still like to see another option added, whether Toivonen or someone else.
I am, personally, happy with the squad right now and prepared to accept that we might have to wait until January. It's often difficult to predict where the holes will appear - if Howson starts like he finished last season, we might be wondering why we ever thought to need another AM! That said, my priority for players if we are going to sign more would be in this order: (1) ball-playing centre half (2) ball-playing central midfielder (3) attacking midfielder
I'm inclined to prefer Mounir El Hamdaoui at around £2m as a second striker/wide right option as the fourth striker and concentrate on getting a ball playing quality CB in as well.
Agree with all of that. Could be that our CBs would prove a bit better with the ball if they had a ship-steadying midfielder just in front of them. Still don't know if Fer is that man. My feeling is still that an older head would help.
Yes, I agree with rob and would like a new CB if poss, given our vunerability when bassong was out last season. What happened about toby alderwerald? I read he was talking to Everton from memory. Is he another toivonen, keeping his options open for now.
theres a lot of people who hate Toivonen around. He's even dubbed the antichrist of football! https://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Hate-Ola-Toivonen/192007004163672
Whilst not disagreeing with the idea of a new CB, both Turner and R Bennett improved as the season went on and if I remember correctly, Bassong was injured quite early in the season.
£2m? is that all? i think he was at spurs once upon a time. i've seen very little of him recently but he looked sharp in dutch football that's for sure. not had the best of times in italy (although i'm purely going by his goal record) but he averages a goal every two games throughout his career and he's played for some big clubs. could be a good signing but this is the first i'd heard we'd been linked.
again i don't dissagree with that statement. i also wonder whether ayala will feature, certainly in cup games
i like that though. always good to have a complete bastard in your team. holty played the role brilliantly
Nicknamed "De Tovenaar van Kralingen" (The Wizard of Kralingen) in the Netherlands early in his career (Wikipedia). Fell out with Frank De Boer at Ajax. I imagine he wouldn't be the first to do that. Has Cove posted anything on El Hamdaoui?
Just seen Bernard went to Shakhtar. A big Arsenal target during this window, they still haven't spend a single penny this transfer window and I honestly don't think they'll reach an agreement with Liverpool over Suarez. If I was Arsenal Chairman, I would just get in Jurgen Klopp. I think he is the modern day Wenger, the way in which he develops young cheap players. I just find Wenger out of touch in the last few years. Apologies it's not Norwich related, but not much transfer talk in the past week or so.
