already turned down west ham (who were beneath him) so can't see him wanting to get his arse down to norfolk!
The Guardian are reporting Man Utd are in talks with Everton over Fellaini - nice bit of unsettling prior to our season opener!
i also notice barcelona are in for david luiz. i really cannot understand why chelsea would entertain the thought of selling luiz. for me, pound for pound the most talented player currently plying his trade in the premier league and only going to get better. would be a truly stupid decision to sell.
My only thought in terms of reasoning is that Jose just doesn't think he's solid enough and is too much of a maverick, even for a midfield role.
So far there's just been a lot of "sparring" over the big name transfers -- Rooney, Bale, Suarez, Fellaini, Baines, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Luiz, etc. Now we are getting towards the end game (apologies for the mix of metaphors) and it's all going to get serious. A lot of deals which we have been told won't be allowed to happen are going to happen. Surprise, surprise. As an aside, every time Brendan Rogers opens his mouth now he puts his foot more firmly in it IMO. Is he really the future of LFC?
I completely agree, I think he's an absolutely fantastic footballer with the world at his feet. I can totally see why Barca want to sign him as he would be perfect for them, and like you I can see no sensible reason that Chelsea would want to sell him.
i'm looking forward to seeing how he develops and i'd much rather see it on these shores as i love watching him live!
I just don't get the love-in for David Luiz. I completely get that he is a talented player BUT he makes an awful lot of howlers for a top centre half and seems to have concentration issues and gets caught out of position frequently. I would argue that he is not the most talented player in the Chelsea squad (Mata springs to mind) let alone the league. If you're looking at him as a defensive midfielder then would you seriously take him over Yaya Toure, as a centre back would you take him over Kompany? I can't remember ever seeing him dominate a game the way someone like Bale does or having the consistency of a Lampard or a Gerrard. That said Barca do know how to pick a player and if they rate him then who am I to criticize?
he'd be the first player i bought if i were a manager and could afford him – i'd build the entire team around him. he's got breathaking technique. he makes mistakes but that's because he is adventurous and a bit of a maverick. better than toure? yeah he is. better than kompany? not as a centre half, no, but he is getting better and i think he could be soon, but his best position is further forward. having said that, he's one of those talents that can literally play anywhere and still look accomplished
There's a couple of (not too reputable) sources saying we've upped our bid for Quags now. I've even seen £12mil mentioned. Sounds a bit steep to me.
Don't forget he's still young, and has plenty of time to improve on his positioning and cutting out mistakes. However the technique and natural ability is something you can't learn
Yeh seems to be that sort of figure bouncing around the Italian websites, I don't think it's too steep. He will bring some quality to the team, I do however think we should be looking at a AM right now and not another striker.
£12m for Quagliarella seems too much, I've seen €11-12m, which is closer to £9m, so maybe that's the figure? I agree with Fenland, I don't necessarily think it's a striker we want, but an attacking midfielder.
Fair enough bor. I get that he has bags of ability, but it doesn't really strike me as a particularly sound investment given his advancing years - not to mention that we've already splashed around £14mil on two strikers already. Still, if it happens I'll be fully behind him as he is a quality player.
Blimey - that is a very bold statement given the planet contains Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Xavi, Modric, Iniesta, Van Persie, Mata, Pirlo and others whom I would currently take over Luiz. Clearly I'll need to watch Luiz more closely as there must be something special about him if you reckon he's that good.
I think I've seen both £12mil and €12mil, so maybe journos are getting their wires crossed... .. or I am of course.
Hmm, I'm going to blame the journo's, there's incompetency everywhere, so a trifling this like a currency is bound to go amiss. Perhaps we should report all our transfer fees in italian lira, so a £1m deal becomes a £2.25 bn deal.
