He's since said that his lawyers/agent were informed in advance of the statement. Brighton fans saying Gus had not been taking phone calls or attending the hearings with the club... Also says he expects to be manager for the first game of the season...
That was absolutely ****ing brilliant. On balance Gus has probably got what's he deserves but Brighton have done themselves no favours either. Faxing a statement to the BBC while Gus was on the show is pretty low. I certainly wouldn't work there.
At the star of all that, the BBC bloke said that Pooyet took a phone call; next he is claiming he knew nothing. He's just a nasty piece of work.
Does anyone know what the "disciplinary" actions taken against him by Brighton are all about- cannot see anything in the press. Good to see his employers take a stand and some nice entertainment there, he is a twunk is he not?
As far as I know it's about him wandering around after the palace game and saying that he was going to be managing at a bigger club next season. Basically he tapped himself up. Think it's unlikely that he was the one who left Holloway (another lovely chap) a big brown present in the dressing room...
Not entirely clear to me, there was this e-mail - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4932293/Revealed-Brighton-poo-email.html - but it doesn't seem to be a sackable offence by itself, and doesn't explain why Tarrico and Oatway got suspended too. Perhaps all will be revealed in the future, it appears that Brighton are doing it privately, whilst Poyet is not. Had a quick browse of Brighton websites and they don't seem to know much either.
So, from what Poyet said on Goals on Sunday... Poyet says he was very disappointed by the manner in which Brighton announced his sacking. He said that Brighton informed him after a week or so of negotiations about how to amicably split, that his release from contract was pending. He spoke to Brighton and the parties agreed to meet in order to end the contract on Monday and Gus told them he was turning his phone off. Then on Sunday night on BBC during the Confederations Cup coverage, Brighton made the announcement. He says he felt he deserved more respect. He says there are three allegations standing against him, which he will be taking to court. He says issues had arisen surrounding communication, because Gus and staff felt there was not adequate communication from those at the top. He also says that there was an issue because of the chairman's intentions with regard to players in the following summer. Says he was given permission to speak to Reading after an approach, but he never asked to leave, decided that Brighton was better than Reading for him.
Hope the bookies have got this one wrong Saints next permanent manager 3/1 Gus Poyet (WTF???) 16/1 Roberto Di Matteo 20/1 John Hughes 25/1 Avram Grant 25/1 Eddie Howe 25/1 Gianfranco Zola 25/1 Guus Hiddink 25/1 Alan Sherarer 25/1 Sam Allardyce 25/1 Rafa Benitez Not many in that list i would want in charge
You would "tolerate" Benitez? It would be an absolute coup if we lured him. That would be a very real statement of intent for European football
