On a serious note, thats a massive problem at Arsenal. Arsenal season tickets have gone up by 6% is it? And all thats doing is stopping the fans who would turn up every week into renewing their season ticket. The people who are buying the tickets are people who think £2k is pocket change, and if they dont bother to turn up for the games they dont really care. Whereas if i was to splash out £2k for a season ticket, not only would i get a kicking from the GF, but i would kill to make it to every game <ok>

Sounds like problemo solvo?

He could prove to be a decent signing. He has a great record for consistent games. To my memory he's had very view clangers.

Didn't he have a reputation for it at Liverpool? But, then again, Reina is about the only Liverpool keeper since the dawn of football (in 1992...) that hasn't been the media kicking post that Gomes has become.

A couple of keepers with experience who can give Gomes reason to up his game, as well as help out with the various keepers in our youth team. Not Alnwick, though, he's beyond salvation...

Friedel was sparingly used at Liverpool (33 games in 3 years) and it was well over a decade ago, HBiC.

Anyone know what his consecutive league game record is, at the moment?
The last that I could find was from January, where he hit the 250 mark.

Just seen some stats from SkySports comparing Gomes and Friedel from last season....Gomes comes out on top...just!

Clean Sheets:

7.......7

Collecting the ball

96%.......96%

Friedel also conceded around 20 more goals....

But of course Gomes has made some right clangers this season that have cost us <ok>

As somebody who just ate a German salad might say, hopefully this leads to some solidity at the back.

I think that you've hit the nail on the head there, RRP.

I don't think that Friedel will make tons of outstanding saves every game, but then I don't think that we need him to, most of the time.
What we needed last season was a goalkeeper who was capable of organising his defence, doing the normal stuff well and concentrating for 90 minutes.

Spot on PNP <ok>

What we needed was a GK - someone who can catch the ball and not do what Gomes did against Blackpool for the second penalty <yikes>

The pattern of our games over the last couple of seasons, especially against lower teams is, we dominated the game, fail to score, the other team then goes up the other end of the pitch and we conceded a poor goal (which could have been avoided by an organized defense and a less clanger prone keeper) with their only shot on target <ok>

Im still not impressed with Harry seemingly wanting to go for older players, we need to build for the future, not just for next season....the GK position could be with a player for years and years, Friedel only has a few years in him, strange signing in my opinion, unless we have another GK lined up for our number 1 as Gomes is on his way out <ok>

Yeah probably, wasn't Pienaar injury-proof before he joined us and has spent most of his time on the treatment table at Spurs.

Er, you missed RRP! <laugh>
Wrong article!

I'd suggest Westwood from Coventry for nothing, though.

Friedel's injury record is amazing, the man never seems to get injured and plays basically every game.

Good point about him and Walker Hollingydale.

He's conceded this year because Dunne and Collins have been poor. He's 'back up' to appease Gomes, I think openly demoting HG would be demoralising and not necessary. He'll soon shoot himself in the foot, and thats if he doesn't move on anyway.

Looking at his career, he has played pretty much every game since he left Liverpool, really can't see him settling for no2 at Spurs.

I think Gomes will be sold this summer, aren't Ajax and PSV interested?
