just watched the norwich city 92 live thing on skysports news with the manager saying we can't play to aggressive also he says he glad to have done his business early by the things he said it sounds like no more signings which i don't agree with and we are not going to be aggressive this season so more defensive tactics again. we befo need 1 more striker as rvw, hooper and beccheo as only strikers and beccheo is rubbish gives the ball away to much. and we need cover for bassong who is injured and not likely to start season so we need a cb to replace him while he is out. so we need 2 players not 0.

what do people think he did say he glad he done his business early

Haven't seen enough of Becchio to say he's rubbish, but the last game he played in at the end of last season I thought he did quite well and I would actually like to see him have more of a chance to play.

i think he keeps changing what he saying maybe a smoke screen to not give anything away but he did say in press he wanted more but live today he said the things above so don't know what to believe now. as even people close to the club say it would be sensible to get another striker. but as bassong is injured we need a strong cb as we have no back up for him all we have is ryan Bennett and turner and bassong as any good cb so we need 1.

andy, let me tell you - i just watched the hughton interview he gave for sky92 and i cannot fathom for the life of me how anybody could have been set into 'panic mode' quite like you have been! he gave a calm, sensible interview. to say you've over reacted would be a complete under reaction!! just be patient and let him sort the squad in his own time - there really is no panic - we've had a brilliant window so far and i think we'll still bring in at least one, maybe two more before the close.

Is Andy 1950 under a different name? Both seem to be drinking from a 'half emptty' glass. If we lose the remaining friendlies, I've no idea what they'll do!!!!

Heaven forbid anybody say something bad relating to signings.

I'd say his glass is smashed and recycled as a glass ornament for Victor Meldrew. Shocking.

Never judge football managers on what they say is going to happen in terms of transfers. Half the time they are lying.

Only judge them on what they actually achieve and who they actually sign.

Calm down Andy!!!! I agree another striker would be good, but not essential. R Martin is more than capable of deputising at CB for a couple of games and I actually prefer him there than at RB, where Whittaker wuld be my choice. I remember watching him at CB against Arsenal in the 2011 - 2012 season and he saved 2 almost certain golas that day.

I like that JRF. From now on I will only talk about the golas Arsenal score (or don't for that matter). Goals with a bit of oolala about them! <ok>

In an ideal world we would have another quality CB but I think it may be a case of watch this space as I can still see Toby A coming to us. Again ideally we would have another striker BUT and it is a huge BUT we are not yet in a position to go out and spend £5m on a player to sit on the banch.

I suspect a huge part of the reason the likes of Rvw/Hooper and Fer have signed for us is the promise of first team football to allow them to showcase themselves for a move up the football food chain to bigger and better things. If we got another quality forward in he would go on the bench or one of the others would so you immediately start with one fed up player. If we don't spend fairly big on a striker then all odds are he wouldn't be better than Becchio who seems to be regarded as the weakness.

I think that if RvW or GH get injured or suspended then CH will simply play one up front and use Becchio for impact. If they both get injured then there is a problem but how far do you go for cover? How many clubs our of the top four have even got two strikers to match the quality of ours let alone two and a top class replacement.

If we had our centre backs fit and ready I would be more than happy to leave the squad as is and even now I have no issue with Ryan Bennett and Rusty coming in until Seb and Turner get fully fit. However if Seb's injury is likely to take a fair while to heal then I'd "gamble" the fee and wages on Toby A (if he would be prepared to come to us) to prevent us rushing Seb back too soon.

Looking at our finances* , how low our relative wage bill is and the influx of cash from the TV money, I actually think we might be. Certainly Hughton and McNally are strutting around like we are.

*we were 12th in the prem by turnover in 2011-12 and so probably 13th/14th behind Wet Sham and possibly Southampton now, although we may have crept above any of Sunderland, Fulham and Villa

Rob - I meant that whilst we can afford a £5m player why would we spend it on someone on the bench when it could be spent to strengthen a different area and have a realtively weaker player on the bench eg spending £5m on Toby A would leave Turner on the bench when Seb is fit but IMO this would strengthen the team more than having a £5m striker in and having one of our existing £5m+ srrikers on the bench. At this stage of our development I would argue that it is more important to get 11 x £5m quality players in the first team rather than have 9 in the first team and two on the bench. Get the first XI as strong as possible and then look at incresing the squad depth as and when we can.

I also don't see a top quality player coming to warm our bench unless they are simply adding to their pension pot a la QPR and if that's the case then they are probably not the player for us. We get decent players because they want to play and develop their careers. Sadly at the moment playing for NCFC is not the pinnacle of many international players careers and so we get them with a view to their playing well for us and moving on to a bigger club giving them career progression and us a season or two's perfomrances on the pitch and a profit on the transfer fee.

Sorry, I wasn't criticising! I agree with you that we should target our weakest positions to create balance throughout the squad (I look at Cardiff's, Villa's and even So'ton's squads and while they have one or two fantastic players, they look very imbalanced). However, I think that if you look at our squad, it's going to be difficult to find anywhere to improve significantly with £5m, other than one of our centre-backs, which it sounds like we're working on. The only place I can think of is at full-back, but I think we've got adequate cover (and £5m is a lot for the cheapest position in the squad) so it would be a wasted.

£5m isn't actually that much for a striker as they are the most expensive, which merely highlights the bargains we have managed, so my point was that I think Hughton and McNally would be more than happy to spend £5m on a striker to sit on the bench (as long as they come off it regularly...) So a £5m striker is the equivalent of a £2m fullback (who will definitely be warming the bench). Given that we only currently have two £5m + strikers, if one or even both were to get injured (which is actually quite a high possibility over the course of the season, if only for a week or two) then we are very thin on the ground.

I agree that we don't want pensioners, but nothing (other than Quag's, perhaps) has indicated we are going for that. If we got Quags, I would imagine we will have Hooper benching more often. He is certainly not in the prem to collect his pension and would be frothing at the bit.

He actually said you can't be any less aggressive than you have to be. Which means he wants to be as aggressive as possible in all the games.

It feels like you've jumped to conclusions on this one!

I'm not sure what report Andy was watching!, some fans assume that CH is going to play defensively like he did last season, they seem to think that's going to be his tactics forever but he had to work with the squad he had and now we have new signings I feel we will see more attacking play. I think the signings he has made tell us his strategy is going to be a lot different this coming season.

Having now listened to the interview, all I can say is that if people misunderstand what CH is saying as badly as Andy, there's no need to put up any smoke screen. <laugh> <ok>
