So, I was having a discussion with a Sunderland fan yesterday evening about goalkeepers.

He said he can't believe we are happy to start the season with Boruc as our only serious keeper. Says he thinks he's unreliable and erratic.

Obviously being a Sunderland fan he also thinks Kelvin is atrocious.

I feel perfectly happy with Boruc as keeper, good to see he's trimmed down a bit this season too. Anyone?

Yeah he looks a lot fitter than he did when we signed him, and seems to be motivated to do well. Can only bode well for the coming season.

Yep, we're fine in goal. I know how Sunderland fans feel about Kelvin, but clearly they haven't paid any attention to him since he left them. Boruc is not unreliable at all; no idea where that's come from.

The guy watched Celtic a lot. Said whilst Boruc could be a fantastic shot stopper at times, he makes daft mistakes.
 
Yeah I've noticed this from non Saints fans aswell. Most people I know seem confused that we aren't targeting another keeper, and almost all think Boruc is ****. Probably is them not really watching us and seeing that we conceded a lot of goals at times last year, or they may have seen the shaky start Boruc had and just got their opinion from that.

A couple of my friends have even said he is by far the worst starting keeper in the Prem, but I think they were trying to wind me up
 
Seems to be the abiding opinion with other team's fans that we are still embedded in keeper troubles and still don't have a proper no.1 and have a merry-go-round of rubbish ones. Probably because Boruc is a bit of a nutter and has plenty of eccentric spills and scoops of crosses, they see that on MotD and assume he is very much error-prone, when in reality he didn't really put a foot wrong after January. I think he's excellent and will happily take his insanity and slightly dodgy handling in return for his fantastic shot-stopping, and there's no-one else I'd back ahead of him in a one-on-one, his technique is excellent in those situations.

Perfectly happy with him for the next 3/4 seasons if he keeps his form.

He wore #31 at Celtic did he not? Kelvin has been #1 for a long time and is club captain.

I can't see why Boruc wouldn't be the clear front-runner to start every game. Unless injured, or suspended.
 
Very happy with Boruc. Not remotely concerned by his shirt number.

I also noticed his slimming down. As last season progressed his top seemed to get baggier and baggier.
