I think you have dodged a bullet with Bent - he will score goals but he's f*cking high-maintenance in the 'adoration by the fans' department... I couldn't see him hitting his groove in an environment where a significant number of fans would have been on his back. Maybe at £30k a week he'd have been a good piece of business but at £65k or thereabouts? No way.

Isn't this a recent pattern with you lot and transfers though... make a show of going after someone and under-bidding to ensure it falls through? I cannot recall the other times but my Mag mates all seem to whinge about it.

I'm not sure we ever wanted Bent. Our 'interest' was only for show, so that Lyon thought we had other options to go after. The only players we've been quoted as being interested in have been Aubameyang (who chose Dortmund, one could argue we knew we wouldn't get him), Gomis and Remy. Likelihood is we'll get the other two. Maybe even pick up a defender. If all of this is happens, there'll be a few happy mags around, though this Summer has been torturous.

But it'll still be happening on the 4th September. If they're so keen on a fcking window, you'd think it would end BEFORE the first game of the season. Fcking FA.

The window is a joke.

Not necessarily the idea in itself, although it does have its criticisms, but the implementation, globally not just in England. Especially when you take into account how loans can be made for some time afterwards.

Pardew wanted Bent for the number 10 role according to George Caulkin from The Times:

@332ceders @cognoscentinovo @HanoiToon Pardew wanted to play him No10 - did it for him at Charlton apparently.

@cognoscentinovo @HanoiToon @332ceders bid. I KNOW there's interest from direct conversations with Bent, Pardew, Llambias. That's me ...

How do these journos get a job?

Does Pardew even know what a number 10 role is? Or does he think it's a partner up front for the number 9, someone who heads in crosses from the number 11?

Pr1ck.

Nice for you mate, I might as well just add we've more league titles hence historically a more successful club. <ok>

Don't you just love history.
You should have also added how you had been successfully relegated more than NUFC, Is it NINE times to date.<ok>

Very true, I'd still pick our history though. Neither have won anything in my lifetime would be nice for one us to win something sometime soon, even if it's the league cup. ;)

Again well done, but would I rather have more league titles or played in Europe more? Futile point.

So mackem, if you asked 1000 other supporters who is historically the biggest club between us two, I reckon 999 would say Newcastle.

We're both ****e, we know we are, but you lot! Sign a decent player and a few unheard ofs, and suddenly you're in for the greatest season in your history. <doh>

A sprinkling of league wins in the 1800's doesn't make for a great, historic club. Realistically, you can only count league wins compared to Newcastle when both teams were actually in the fcking league!!!!! So at least your first two league wins - 1891/2 and 1892/3 don't actually count, as NUFC were in the Northern League until 1893/4 season, when they were "elected" to the Second Division. With that in mind, since the two clubs have been in the same league format, the score is 4-4 in terms of league titles won and is the only possible statistic acceptable.

As that's a draw, the only fair way to consider a richer history is to look at either who won by the biggest score back in 1908 (as per Bri's signature) or - and I reckon this is fairer - by OTHER successes, such as FA Cup wins, European trophy wins, etc. I'm afraid to say that this is where the comparison between the two ends.....

(just to be clear, NUFC - 6 FA Cups and 1 UEFA, SAFC - 2 FA Cups and...erm, that's it)
