I was surprised to see an article on the OS about Defoe and his goal scoring record. He has 133 goals for Spurs which puts him joint 7th in our all-time rankings. With just 6 more, which he is highly likely to achieve this season, he will be top 5 behind Greaves, Smith, Chivers and Jones.
He's 26 behind Jones, i would not put it passed him to catch him too, although unlikely to happen this season.

I've always known he's scored goals, obviously, but the sheer number he has racked up for Spurs surprised me a little. Ahead of both Robbie Keane (122) and Teddy Sheringham (124).

Nice one Jermain.

I like Defoe,he will alway's be looking to get the ball, and have ago at goal, unlike Ade,who, seems, mostly disintrested

I'm liking Defoe more and more. Last year I could have seen a point in getting a good fee for him but he seems like he really does love the shirt and you're guaranteed at least 10 goals. More if not for the injuries. Also, as long as he retains his pace he will be great off the bench

Even if he drops a bit of space i can still see this being true. His speciality, for me, is the quick, minimal backlift thunderbolt. When he catches it its basically a goal. He doesn't need pace for that, 1 step/shimmy and then BANG.

Nah, sorry, I'm not convinced. It is true that Defoe has scored a lot of goals for us, but all of that is very much in the past. The very simple fact is that he doesn't scored many goals for us, now. It's the here-and-now that is important, not yesterday.

No doubt he's done more than enough to be counted a Spurs legend, not just for his goals, but also for his unstinting loyalty and patience. But let's not get carried away with this. How many of you honestly believe that Defoe is still good enough to be our main striker?

If we don't get in a decent 20+ prem goals per season striker we will not finish in the top 4.

No,not our main striker, but good enough for a 2nd striker

You still not convinced that defoe is the black greaves,? one day you will change your mind!

nah jokes aside I know why he devides opinion but we couldn't really ask for a better squad striker, as even when we had berba/Keane he was doing his part and just gets on with his job , not good enough as 1st choices anymore if we want to get 4th but we would never realistically get a better squad striker.

Ah, yes, I agreed with you. I also agree with Boss' comment that Defoe is a very good squad player.

Put it this way, if we have to get rid of either Ade or Defoe, I'd keep Defoe.

Defoe is, all things considered, a delight to have on Spurs. He's not perfect by any means, but for two or three years now he's been able to get a bunch of goals without being a regular starter, which is a great asset. Looking at Spurs goals over the course of the season, he contrasts strikingly with Dempsey, the other player who fits that description. Almost all of Dempsey's goals were what in ice hockey are called "garbage": the result of someone being around the net to pick up a loose puck (or ball) and knock it in. I'll take the garbage goals, don't get me wrong, but almost all of Defoe's goals were quality, and the goal he scored against West Ham the first time might have been our best goal of the season. He loves the shirt, he's edging up towards our legends in goals scored, he seems to be a genuinely good guy, and he deserves to be appreciated.

Was that the one where he picked it up out near the touchline, beat 3 players and smashed it in? If so, that was a great goal. Easily the best non-Bale goal
