They say that television is now producing better quality drama than the cinema. I thought I would put up a poll to see what folk's favourite shows were. Obviously I will miss out somebody's favourite so I apologise in advance.
Where's all the British shows? Luther, Life on Mars, Sherlock, Utopia, State of Play, Black Mirror etc. Too many American shows in your list for me. I take it Buffy the Vampire Slayer is there for a joke?
To be honest I forgot all about Life on Mars and Stare of Play ST or they would have been on my list. It only takes 15 shows for the poll. I found Luther to be pretty disappointing so I never considered it to be honest. I've never seen Sherlock I'm no fan of Buffy either I just put it up as it influenced a lot of other shows at the time. I mean I could have put up Star Trek or Doctor Who for that matter I suppose. There's wads of other shows that I have since remembered since putting the thing up that are better than the some of the shows on the poll. Boardwalk Empire, GBH (Bleasdale), Six feet under, Oranges are not the only fruit, Lost, Spartacus, Accused, Dexter, Cracker, Shameless (the first few)... it's pretty subjective though I suppose in terms of what is quality. **** I even forgot footballers Wives
And how could you miss out X Files? I used to love that programme back in the 90s. Watched the concluding episode of it recently and it was utter ****. The Smoking Man was living in a cave as some sort of New Age guru. Absolute pish.
Aye. A poorly lit and poorly recorded cop show. Can't believe people compare it to Breaking Bad / Sopranos.
I liked Cops on BBC 2 - that was a decent one. Loads of 1 off series as well - looking out for JoJo with Robert Carlisle as a Glasgow smack dealer was wryly amusing.
Didn't really like anything on the list other than Twin Peaks - currently watching Broadchurch, which I presume has already been shown in the uk.
Romanzo Criminale. The series not the film. Mentioned it before on here and I still think its one of the best TV shows I've ever seen. Just be prepared for subtitles.
Agree - the last don was excellent as well. There was a good Aussie one a few years back - the secret life of us.
The last don. Was that the one about Toto Riina? EDIT: Naw its no. Not seen that before dan. Worth a download? Thought it was Il capo dei capi/Corleone you were talking about. Never got to see the entire series cause I couldn't find subtitles.
It was on Channel 5 15 years ago - adpatation of one of Puzo's books. Decent enough i thought but mightn't be everyobne's cup of tea.
Nothing wrong with Buffy, loved that show. Breaking Bad is quality, Some others I like are Mad Dogs, Mad Men, Band of Brothers, Being Human, Sherlock (UK Modern version) Game of Thrones.
Romanzo class,Spiral briiliant a French one and love it.Sky Arts and BBC 4 show some of the best telly on the box,not to mention the Scandinavian shows and if it wasn't for The Guardian's guide on Saturday I would have missed them all, they are always good for recommendations.
There's been wads more mentioned that should have been on the poll I keep remembering them. They just appear in my head mainly at inappropriate times. I forgot about The walking dead, Tinker tailor soldier spy, Generation Kill, This is England, House, Sons of Anarchy, Entourage, The Prisoner, 24, American Horror Story, This Life and on and on and on. ST and MD: I quite liked The Wire I thought it was really well written. I never got into The Sopranos for some reason MD. I watched the first series, but kind of gave up on it. I used to watch this other HBO thing at the time called Oz. It's probably the most mental prison show ever it was extremely violent. I watched that Corleone mafia thing you mention, but though it was really turgid stuff. The other one you (and Mick) mention, Romanzo is much better. Dan: Looking after Jojo I thought I was the only person who ever watched that show. Robert Carlyle is great in it. I've still got a VHS copy of it. Drunky: I can't believe I forgot about Band of brothers. Sorry if we all insulted Buffy. Rogue: Twin Peaks. I really like David Lynch. I watched Mullholland Drive for the first time in years the other night. It was actually better than I remember. I think Albert was my favourite Twin Peaks character. I had him as my signature on here for about 14 months. Mick: I have watched Spiral since the first series it's a cracking show isn't it?
You didn't, I understand we all like/dislike different things And there's so many good shows out there, it's easy to forget a few and mention them all.
The area with the high rise flats where Looking After Jojo was filmed (Sighthill in Edinburgh) has now been demolished. About 30 seconds after the end of that video the dust came rushing down the field and we all had to do a runner!
