I'm sure it's pretty meaningless but skybet have removed Saints from Chamberlain's likely club post-summer with Arsenal now 1.1x his likely destination... Please don't do a Walcott and don't listen to your old man!! http://www.oddschecker.com/football...in-specials/club-after-summer-transfer-window
£10Million would be good business with a decent sell on clause - if he goes, he goes as far as I'm concerned. I like him as a player, but he's not integral to the team and the money would be handy.
So, barely a whole season in League One, & the big guns are sniffing around, trying to capture a player who's tipped to go to the very top. Already young Alex has made remarkable progress with Saints, in a teams that has encouraged lots of youngsters to progress through the ranks. So at ten million, surely a snip, but what about the risks of taking the lad out of a team where he is growing as a footballer, & thrusting him into the lime light of clubs who need instant success to keep their vast fan bases & share-holders happy. So Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, do whats best for you, & if Theo's dad gives you any advice, tell him where to go from me!
I don't mind him going, it seems we all accept that Alex is heading for a bright footballing career. What I don't want to see is us getting taken advantage of by a club like arsenal who will offer the bare minimumn to begin with and the rest in add ons, Nigel can't spend £10million if all we get given to start is 3. But I trust Cirtese to stand his ground and show Alex that another season or two is better spent with Saints.
He should listen to his mother and stay with us. It's Media silly season and I would put a modest wage on him being in a Saints shirt this September. He is well grounded and he needs to look at recent history as a guide. As a personal opinion I don't think a player should move from a club, until he has outgrown that club. Meaning his ambition and his talent are beyond what that club can provide. Is he Southamptons best player? No Could he walk into a bigger clubs 1st team? No Unless he has a rift with the manager and is unhappy he has no reason to leave Southampton. He will have 1st team football in front of crowds of 20k + with the freedom to play without massive pressure.
Nicely put s'hero. He seemed so overwhelmed about being promoted with us that it would be hard for anyone to say he's outgrown us & needs a move.......even his (annoying) Dad.
Apparently Liverpool have placed a £10m offer, part of their new scheme to bring in loads of young players, started off by signing the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and expected to continue with the attempted signings of Phil Jones, Jordan Henderson, Connor Wickham and more.
He may be an ex-skate, but I don't believe his Dad would really wan't him to leave us so soon. Let's face it within 3-5 years time we could, and probably should be in the premiership. Oxo could be one of the best players we have ever had or just a mediocre player for arsenal who never get's a good run of games (remind you of anyone?). I can't see the big temptation in going to arsenal anyway, yes they play good football, but they haven't won anything in donkeys years, and the manager is a fool. A great tactician but an idiot.
Agree very much with this, although I think he probably could walk into a bigger club's first team, but not one that could afford the privelege. A good bit of football Marxism could be to introduce a wage cap, say £5k per week (its still quite a lot in the real world), for players under 21. It could limit pushy parents and agents during a crucial stage of a player's devlopment and help them to make an objective decision.
