That was a streak of piss, totally pointless exercise. The US should be more of a challenge given the calibre of teams on show and we'll have our full squad back by then as well.

More a commercial exercise than a footballing one, I think...

Did Mourhino put out a full-strength team, or did he give the reserves a run-out?

Chelsea (4-3-3): Blackman (Schwarzer h-t); Wallace (Ivanovic h-t), Cahill, Terry (c) (Kalas h-t), Bertrand (Cole h-t); Ramires (Feruz 59), Chalobah (Essien h-t), Van Ginkel (McEachran 59); Moses (Traore h-t), Ba (Lukaku h-t), Hazard (Piazon 59).

No it wasn't. Playing in Asia means big jump in fittness due to heat and humidity, next best thing to altitude training. Also big increase in profile, ie sales and turnover, which we will need for FFP. So on those 2 levels, clever scheduling. Given that all pre season games involve playing virtually 2 teams, doesn't matter who we play, not a hell of a lot of benefit if its Barca or Bournemouth.

Right on! Also a great opportunity to allow returning on- loaners and new signings a chance to meld together in matches that are not important competition -wise! Now on to the more "important" friendly against Inter! This is bound to be competive although -again -there will be no prizes for the winner, but lots of kudos! <ok>
