Here we go - Matel Vydra is the latest striker to be linked to us. Did ok at Watford last year - what do we think to him as a potential alternative to Hooper ?

    I don't care! It's a different name!

    Sign him up!

I must say he did look great last season, very exciting prospect. I thought he was player for Udinese or something?

More of number 10 type player I think. I saw him and he looked dangerous every time.

He was on loan from Udinese, Kemp. He scored 20 goals in 41 games for Watford last season.

Probably best to take it with a pinch of salt then...

Wasn't Udinese's asking price about £12 million or something ridiculous?

very very good player, definately the best player in the championship last season, excellent with the ball at his feet and running at players but is also one of those players who can find space in the area. apparently according to a watford fan he might go back to them on loan this year or going to swansea, but udinese want him to progress into their first choice striker in a couple of years.

very promising player but had a horrible dip in form 2nd half of last season. i'm told that was because he got a little too big for his boots. i don't know if that's true or not but that really is the only concern i have over potentially signing him.

I'd be interested in Vydra, any idea on what he was like beofre last season? I am not sure we would be paying £12m if thats what he is apparently valued at though.

I'd be very surprised if West Ham can afford £9-10m after buying AC, especially as they need to strengthen elsewhere. His coming to City is also a long shot, IMO.

Vydra looked pretty good first half of last season. If he can play more consistently he'd be a great buy. Might be a bit expensive if Udinese want big bucks for him.

    woah woah woah!

he's not a clown!! granted he's not someone i rate but he is a technically gifted footballer. we're not talking about someone who can't play the game here, we're talking about a capable player, he's just not who i or indeed many of us would choose because he's a bit of a drifter.

its a tricky one. i'm not a fan but i totally see why managers like him and why they think they can tap into his potential, which is undoubtedly there. he's never been a goal scorer but not all strikers score goals in bulk. i previously compared him to robert rosario (not sure how old you are or if you remember him but he used to partner fleck for city, late 80s). now lopez has far more natural ability than rosario but in essence, they were good 'second' strikers when partnered with the right man. lopez may be able to do that for us, who knows. he's not someone i'd have ever considered going for so when his name cropped up the other week i was shocked - maybe he could work well alongside RvW... i personally don't think he would but we may well find out!

It's a slight concern that he didn't score much at Barcelona saw him once in a CL game he was being used like a wide forward, he has scored quite a lot in Serie A for Catania and had AC Milans attention. It's a difficult one to read into as Serie A is a lot more defensive then the Prem and difficult to score, but when playing with teams with quality players his never really lived up to the hype.
