It's lost the excitement and prestige it once had for a range of reasons. Back in the day (late 70s / 80s) it was one of the only games you'd ever get to see live on the TV and both teams were relatively evenly matched (though i also seem to remember a time when you lot were much better than us). I don't think the FA takes it that seriously now either which is a shame - I still say it was a scandal that it wasn't the first international game at the new Wembley given it's the oldest one in the world. I'd also rather see us play you on a more regular basis than someone like France or Germany anyway as it's always a good laugh and i think it was arrogant and dismissive of the English FA to shelve it - can only speak for myself but suspect it wasn't what most fans wanted. I guess they got a bit fed up with the trouble too although leaving a couple of games aside it was never really that bad.
I'll watch it and hope the atmosphere is decent enough for them to consider resurrecting it as a regular fixture.
